Default FM Clutch level 1

Has anyone tried one of these yet? Comparison to ACT HD?

I have the previous FM ACT XT/flywheel in my '90 and I don't think it feels too heavy. My wife's '02 FM2 has some sort of RPS clutch that is too high strung for her liking and is looking for a switch. There's no boost gauge in her car, but IIRC it's running 10 psi.

to get a 1.8 flywheel machined to a lighter weight?

I've got a 1.6, and I am pretty sure the main seal is leaking. I'm thinking of hitting the junkyard for a used 1.8 flywheel, then having it machined down closer to the 1.6 weight.

I haven't researched what that would cost from the machine shop, though. Or if there are issues with carving a bunch of mass of a stock flywheel.

Default Love mine

I put a level 1 clutch in my U3 Ubercharged car over the weekend. I think it is great, pedal pressure is very moderate and take up is great, very smooth. Reminds me of the FM kevlar clutch I had in my old FMII car. Seems to be holding ~230 lb/ft of torque at the rear wheels with no trouble. It has been a long time since I've driven a stock Miata but this clutch can't be much stiffer than OEM. Great product at a great price!

JTod, did you get them with FM flywheel. If not, what flywheel are you using?

I'm running a factory flywheel lightened to 14lbs and balanced. Took out a Racing Beat aluminum flywheel because I wanted more mass with the blower drag. Will be selling the RB flywheel and 3 puck clutch at some point.

FM Level 1 clutch installed in the 2002 FMII. Pedal feel is very good, minimally stiffer than stock. I was quite surprised -- I have an Act Extreme on my 1990, and I didn't think the pedal feel was that heavy, but is definitely stiffer than the new FM level 1.

I have it on a 1.6 with a stock 1.8 flywheel. After about one week of use it feels the same as my stock 1.6 clutch used to.
