Default Group buy DOOR BARS-FOR SALE

So you might have seen my ancient thread from a while ago saying that i would be making door bars, and they are finally ready to be sold. I'm not gonna make excuses or go into detail for why they took so long, i was just really busy with other projects and school.

Onto the bars,

They are similar in design to the bethania garage door bars.

.125 wall 1.5 inch DOM tubing

all tig welded

all plates are 3/16" steel

come with backing plate for the floor mount, and all the hardware to bolt into the floor. top mount hardware is already there with the roll bar.

designed to bolt in with the hard dog roll bars.

comes with all hardware, but not painted

top plates have slots so that you can adjust how far sideways they will go based on seat or small roll bar differences.

They do touch the seat padding, but honestly i am just as comfortable sitting in the car with them than without.

price is 200 shipped, or if you live close by we can work something out.

To start, i have 3 pairs immediately available, and 6 more that i just need to bend and weld, will be completed by friday. if demand continues, i already have all my setup and jigs to make more quickly. The hard part was the design and setup.

The pictures only show the bars tack-welded, i will throw some final pictures up tomorrow when i can take more.

Thanks,
Evan Witty

Mind if I come by and look at em? A: to see if they fit with my seat and B: to look at your car?

Those look pretty good, wonder if they would clear my seats...could you do some measurements? From the joint where the seal is to the bar (the closest side to the seat) and from the floor to the bar (top of the bar) would help immensely..

Would you consider trades for a set of door bars?

Too bad so late. Picked up HD's a couple months ago. I hope there is some interest and they sell for you!

It will be interesting to see if I notice any added stiffening since I already have frame rails. I'm really doing it as an added safety measure in case of an accident

I would say you're adding these door bars for all the wrong reasons then. And yes, you'll notice a difference. From what I understand the frame rails add very little stiffening when compared to the door bars.

im sure its got to offer some protection. extra chassis stiffening cant be a bad thing, plus the price is right

There was some discussion on m.net that the door bars may cause more harm than good during a side impact.

That sounds like a discussion they would have over there. Just like the "rollbars are dangerous" discussions. Honestly, it depends on how you look at it. Anything that is adding more stiffening to the cabin is going to help in an accident. The only issue I see is that in a side impact it might push the bar into your hip. But honestly, if the bar wasn't there, wouldn't their bumper be in your hip anyway?

I think people who are worried about being injured by equipment that is intended to make their car do something better should probably not be driving a miata...more like a volvo.

Would somebody do a droop test once they get their bars? I would be interested in seeing how much rigidity these add. I am thinking it will be about the same as the rollbar, perhaps a bit more but still comparable.

+1

Adding structural rigidity, sure. Adding safety, no. All that is going to do is put a steel bar in your side. Not to mention a lot of vehicles on the street will have an impact point above that bar anyways. Think of it this way, that bar will hit you 1.5" before the door would have. The way it is mounting to the floor is just going to bend over in the front. Not trying to **** on the thread or idea, just trying to give you a different perspective to keep in mind.

if the seats go any wider than stock, they probably won't fit. the problem with width is up where the top plate mounts, there's not enough sideways space to start the bars any wider out than i did with the slots.

and pictures of the first bars being shipped!!
