I ordered them from TR to be shipped to a local Big-O tire and got a call from them this morning to schedule installation, perhaps they were shipped directley from the manufacturer to Big-O

So no, I wouldn't say the Z2s are faster. A lot of the national STR S2K drivers aren't too impressed with the Z2s either. I've never driven them, though.

Out at Putnam this weekend the ZII's were a lot more responsive than the Rivals, wore better too. (205's on 8's)

So in a 205 the z2s were faster?

Obviously don't take my word for it, go test per YOUR setup and driving style.

However, the Rivals developed a "tread splice", something not entirely uncommon, but not something I'm comfortable with on an endurance track car.

This is the second time I've heard of a rival tread splice. I know the first set TR and BFG took a big interest in and they got a new set.

A little wider than the RS3's they rub a little when the wheel is turned full lock

Are those on 8's? How do they feel compared to the RS3s I know people were saying these have a stiffer sidewall, are the bfg's more responsive?

The rims are 15" x 9" , I think that the BFG is a little wider because there is some rubbing on the front tires at full steering lock (may be the sway bar but I have not looked at it yet)
Performance wise they feel a little stiffer than the RS3's but it is hard to tell when you run 700lb front 400lb rear springs and a big front sway bar, they do feel sharp on turn-in and its hard to tell how they compare grip wise unless one does a back to back comparison at a track or autocross. On the street (hwy ramps) they grip OK but unlike the rs3 they do like to squeal.
Well see how they do at a track day

Have you bought the Riva's yet Slider? I need a competitive edge against you since I drive like a limp dick. My R1Rs are toast and I want to try something else.
I personally don't like the RS3s after putting them on my FD last summer. I really didn't like the sloppy sidewalls. The 225 R1Rs on my 15x9s feel awesome and I don't want to lose that instant turn in. This first event though, I will just run the old R1Rs.

No I haven't, we are using it 225/45/15 on a 15x8 for our lemons e30, so we'll see in less than a week how they perform. A 225 RS3 on 15x9 is going to feel way better than the wide tire you had on the narrow rim. The turn in is great on my car, feel free to drive it to see how it feels at one of the events. I still have a bit of life left on the RS3s, I might switch by the end of the year though.

I got mine mounted today. I'll attach a few pictures once I get them on my computer.

Fitment is tight but no rub with 225/45/15 on 15x9 6UL's on my '94 with 12.75"R/12.5"F ride height hub to fender with fenders rolled and front liners removed. IIRC camber is 1.6F/1.8R. I have Tokico Illuminas and SS brake lines. I had to cut notches out of the OE sized spring perches on the Illuminas and rotate the brake line fittings to make clearance for the wheels. First picture shows the clearance at full lock with tubular racing beat front bar.

The reviews I've seen say that these tires give a lot of noise feedback with slip angle. They're still in the grip sweet spot when the noise starts though. That kind of feedback could be used to competitive advantage.

That is true, they start making noise before the point where the tire is over its optimum slip angle, and they are easy to go past that point and come back without much drama.
Coming from RS3's it is just a mater of re tuning the driving not to back of them when they start to make noise.
Every one will know who is running BFG'S at a track or autocross event LOL
We will see how they do at autocrossing next Sunday at Grissom IN

UPS dropped them off on Tuesday. Put them on Friday night and drove about 100 miles. Parked the car till today. I'm going take the 15x9's them off later today till I use them next weekend.

I'm back to 3 sets of wheels.
