Default Laptop for tuning
Wish list:
-legal copy of XP with discs
-serial port but not a deal killer
-decent battery capacity

I will consider anything that is dirt cheap and functioning.

I also suggest solid state HDD...

I'd recommend going with a netbook unless you are planning on tuning for a living.
