Default 1.8 Torsen swap

I have found 3 or 4 1.8 torsen swaps on here, cr, m.net and ebay. All are $500-600 and aren't selling. I'm looking for at least the whole rear diff and the driveshaft, I can do without the half shafts. I'm offering $300. Just thought I would throw out an offer incase someone with a rear end swap wants to sell. Thanks.

I don't mean to offend or make fun of anyone. I just don't see why they are worth that much. I'm hunting the junkyard for one, should only cost $200. Just an observation.

Oh really?
Seems like they sell fine...an Ebay search shows just the gut unit of a torsen type 1 bringing $560

And a 1.8 open diff swap selling for $429

Even a 1.6 diff brought $290

I have sold many diffs and your offer would only get a laugh from me.
But more power to you.

Its all about supply and demand. With recent rule changes in spec miata allowing torsens to be swapped into early NAs the demand is actually even greater.

Some of the parts you have seen advertised have not been marketed to the right type people

Thanks for all the help guys.

Just putting up an offer for the ones that weren't selling. I thought it would be more polite to put a lowball offer in the WTB threads than in the FS section.

But I'm glad you guys got a good laugh out of it.

I have the full swap from a 1995 for 800.00 (LSD assembly, carrier, drive shaft, one piece axles and the misc bolts). Sold two at/around this price, so I know the price is not high.

^ I just bought one, works great except I didn't change a seal like he suggested, I did, now it works great again. And by misc bolts...its EVERYTHING you need to put it in the car.

The only problem about finding one in a junkyard for $200...is finding one.

Apparently my first post wasn't clear enough?

I'M PUTTING A LOW BALL OFFER FOR A 1.8 TORSEN SWAP FOR ANYONE WHO HAS ONE THAT FOR SOME REASON THEY CANNOT GET RID OF!

I'm glad to hear you have sold them for $800, but I fail to see how that has any relevance to my original post. Like I said I'm not trying to be a dick. Maybe the case has a crack, maybe they don't want to ship, maybe the seals leak. I don't care, thats why its a LOW BALL.

Sure it's unreal, but it doesn't hurt anyone to ask. I scored a nice set of 14" wheels for $50 because the guy didn't want to ship. They would have sold for $100 maybe, but the guy wanted them gone and I had cash. Lay off with the insults, I'm polite about my low ball and put it in the WTB section. Don't like it? Don't offer.

They'll be able to get rid of it for alot more though... I have people in line for mine... just boxing the damn thing up is a pain in my ****.

Seriously... if you want to buy one for that price... your only chance is finding one in the junkyard. Gluck.

I'm still searching the junkyard, they had a bunch of rx7's before I knew the parts would fit, just a matter of time before they have more.

I'm planning either the open case with an rx7 swap or the junkyard torsen. Both should be coming through my junkyard eventually, its massive. Scored my 330cc injectors for free. Never hurts to lowball expensive stuff, you'd be suprised at what can be found.

if you find a 86-88 rx7 with an LSD, then all you need from the miata is the pinion housing, gear ring, driveshaft, axles and bushings.

To be clear....
"What can be found" and spewing some bullshit about how torsens dont sell or arent worth much are two different things.

Fact, no one insulted you, only raised the BS flag a bit.
Fact, the swaps sell easily at $700-900
Fact, if you can find a redneck retard owned junkyard that specializes in american makes and that has no idea what they have or what foreign car parts are worth you might even score one for $50-$75

Well the few torsens I was watching still have no bids, hence the "not selling", and if thats spewing bullshit then yes I did?

I understand completely that the swaps go for $700-900. But that is not the case with the few I had my eyes on.

I'm just irritated that I throw out an obvious low offer to maybe make something happen and you guys come get your laughs and pretty much make sure if someone had anything to sell they won't be posting it. I never asked for a complete swap, I would settle for bits and pieces. I'm not trying to screw anyone over, if they took the time to pull it off the car I'm pretty sure they would know the going rate for it. I have plenty of opinions on the pricing in the FS forum, but I keep them to myself because if i'm not buying/selling it's not my buisness. Thanks anyway, might as well lock this thread since it won't be doing anyone any good.

You posted some erroneous nonsense about sales/values. Instead of that if you would have just admitted in your original post that you were simply making a crazy stupid lowball offer your probably would have gotten no reaction.

As a person who has scored MANY deals on cars/parts I can tell you its never a good idea to attempt 'beat down' a part value in an attempt order to score one cheap. It may work on a few stupid people but is rather insulting to anyone who knows their *** from a hole in ground.

In addition, I doubt anyone on this particular enthusiasts forum is stupid enough to sell you a torsen for $300 unless they just like you and want to do you a favor...which would be be perfectly okay too.
I think most users here know Miatas and related parts.
Nothing posted in this thread would change that.

I dont fault you one bit for wanting a deal...we all want that....I am no different. Its the method you used that got the reaction. Good luck in your search. Like I said..check with redneck junkyards that dont know foreign car parts but happen to have a Miata.

Thats my whole point! I'm not trying to con anyone into selling it. Maybe someone would have said "I have a diff for $500, but I'll do $450." The last part of them not being worth that much was MY OBSERVATION. I made sure it was in it's own paragraph. Damn.

The whole time I was looking for the rear diff and driveshaft at most, did any of you think someone may offer a driveshaft? Maybe they had the bolts and weren't looking for much money? Or the axel nuts? Or am I supposed to fill the WTB section with individual threads of what I want?

I put an offer, I didn't say I wouldn't pay more. I even said I didn't mean to offend anyone, because I knew this was such a low offer. I keep admitting that complete swaps sell for $900, and rear diff's sell for $500. But I suppose none of this makes a difference since I seem to have offended everyone.
