Anyone play with the ignition auto tuning yet?
?
|
I did for a tiny bit before the engine blew. With both fuel and spark autotunes on the car would be weird as hell, idle would be all sorts of crazy. With this engine I have a super solid ignition map and won't even bother touching it without det cans. Even then I'll tune it myself.
As cool as spark autotune sounds, I just don't trust it anymore til someone proves otherwise. |
I would use it for off-boost tuning.
Did you use it for boost? |
I did it for both. "learned" a good amount of cells too. Then engine went boom......
|
Can you tell it to only autotune <100 kPa?
|
Well you could manually set all the cells above 100kpa to "already learned". So yea
|
The careful thing with autotuning is being responsible with it. It does mess around with idle because its constantly varying the ignition timing to optimize the torque. Tuning cruise with it though would be a really good use for it. MAP, TPS, and other variables are fairly steady so i think you would get excellent results.
|
So how would you set it up to tune ignition during cruise? Set all idle cells to tuned, then run with it? My fuel map is fairly well tuned below 5500 rpm and < 80 kpa...
This is for stock injectors and no boost yet... |
Even if you set idle cells to tuned, the ignition autotune will cause you to have a weird idle when its on. No big deal, cause once its off it will be normal again.
Just set all ignition cells over 100kpa to "tuned" and turn it on to tune everything else. |
Cool...
I think I'll save my current map first! ;) Thanks... |
I can't seem to find a column "advance metric" in the datalog ... ?:
Time (s) RPM MAP (kPa) TPS (%) MAT (°C) WT (°C) AuxT (°C) AFR Knock Idle MVSS SVSS Batt (V) Trim (%) Inj (ms) Ign (°) Wastegate (%) Pump Gear VVT1 (°) VVT1Set VVT1Duty VVT2 (°) VVT2Set VVT2Duty ExtIn EGT1 (°C) EGT2 (°C) EGT3 (°C) EGT4 (°C) |
Bueller? Anyone?
Nobody datalogs with "always sense torque" on? |

I can't believe there's this little interest in the coolest feature of the Adap.
|
I'm planning on using it once I get my exhaust fixed so it doesn't false trigger the knock sensor.
|
Could you try a quick datalog and see if you get a column called "advance metric" or "advance" ?
You can begin tuning off boost rows by first retarding your whole map by 2*, running "always sense torque", set ignition to "open loop", and then reading the datalogs, and manually advancing only off-boost cells, one degree at a time. Safe!!! |
I dont have that column in either v3 or v4
|
Its not in V2 either. Its in V1.12.
I'll try it as soon as I can get my car to change gears again. |
Dammit, does this mean you can't tune timing with the Adap's nifty feature without letting it change your timing map for you, leading to possible destruction as 18psi above found ???????
|
You can probably get away with running the old version of WARI as long as you don't try changing a feature that isn't there in the firmware you're running.
|
Are you saying the old WARI may do what I want? (open loop ignition, "always sense torque")
Do you know this for a fact or are you speculating? |
I'm speculating. It should work if the metric is still calculated, unless they changed the register where it is stored. It doesn't seem likely they would change the register location given that the feature that uses is still present.
What I would try: 1. Setup Open Loop & Sense Torque with which ever version of wari you're currently using. 2. Use an old version of WARI to try and view the advance metric. Worst case is that the advance metric comes back garbage or not at all. WARI doesn't write to any registers when it starts up, it just reads them all. |
No news?
|
I just checked. You can log with the older version of WARI. I have V2.2 firmware and I logged with V1.12 WARI. The advance metric column is still there but it stayed all 0's so I don't know if I didn't set the ignition autune up correctly (car was up to temp and above min rpm) or if I just never hit the cell centers. I got ILOAD & IRPM to go green but not IWAIT.
|
Cool! Keep me updated if you see anything promising.
|
Did you have "always sense torque" activated?
|
Yeah I did. I activated it under V2 and it was still checked in V1. I'll probably try again later today.

I've tried logging with 1.12 in both closed and open loop ignition. In both cases the AdvMetric is always 0. I think they changed the registers to reflect that column being pump status in the new firmware/software.
So, you can log with old wari but the columns will still be the values for the version of teh firmware you are running. |
Hmm so the firmware would need to be downgraded too?

Looks like one would need to downgarde to V1.0P firmware:

Thanks. |

currently uploading all the archives of firmware. 1.12 was released as a beta. note that earlier versions of WARI can't upload firmware directly. You have to use FlashIt. |
Thanks.
Is WARI V1.12beta the same as V1.12? |
I dont think there was a non-beta. if in doubt, use an earlier version?

Nobody's tried optimizing an off-boost igntion map? There should be snapiness and MPG to be found! |
|
Why not set ignition corrections to slow coverage? The always sense torque is right there under adaptive mode parameters. V10
