Default Connection and size problems

Ok so I just purchased a netbook to use for tuning (to replace my old big laptop).

It works great and all but I have 2 major problems:

1) It doesn't have a db9 port.
I purchased a db9->usb adapter and connected it. It gets signal and works, but when I connect the new laptop to adaptronic there is no communication at all.
Is there really no way to get the Adaptronic to work through USB??????

2) The screen is small: 10", and the adaptronic window has no SCROLL. This means I see only about 3/4ths of the window. I know its been mentioned before a few times, but is there a fix to this coming soon or what?

Anyone?

I read on another forum that the issue of a scroll is being worked on, but that was about a month ago.

Are the drivers for your serial-usb adaptor working? Have you tried connecting to another serial device to test? I'm planning to use my netbook, and hope I don't run into this problem. It should not be an issue though.

I know this is for megasquirt, but people have similar issues with it all the time, maybe try their USB converter configuration:
Assembly Guide - MegaSquirt V3.0 Main Board

Can you go above the non-native resolution so that the entire screen "scrolls"? Have you tried hiding the taskbar and seeing if that gives you enough space?

Using a larger resolution works, but it's not as simple to navigate in a hurry. It's a minor fix that should have been addressed right away imo.

It will definitely will work through USB. That is how I am connecting to it via a cheapo off-brand USB adapter. IIRC there are issues with some USB converters just like with the Megasquirt.

+1 on above. Try setting the screen resolution to larger than the native resolution of the screen. Then you will be able to scroll beyond the edges of the screen. I do this on my Eee PC and it works well. Think of the screen as a window moving over a larger desktop.

Alright thanx guys.
I was REALLY hoping that its just the usb connection messing up and I guess that's what it is. I'll go pick up another one and try again.

As for screen resolution: mine is set to 1024x768 on a small 10" netbook already: I don't think it will go any higher but I'll see what I can do.

Using a virtual resolution your computer can display 1440x900, but you're getting only 1024x768 on the screen. When you move the mouse, it scrolls around the full resolution area.

All you need is to find a compatible software with your computer.

That must have been 'built into' my laptop's software already. I did not need to install a virtual resolution app. But yeah that is what you need. It is the easiest way to fix the problem with WARI.

hey man hows the build comming?any who to reply to this thread, if you didnt get your usb cable to link up, was there a software that came with the hardware that connects your db cables to usb? if so you need to boot that cd. If your net book is like mine. it probally doesnt have a cd rom drive. so you might want to check the package for the website to download the drivers to make your usb compatable. most should work right away, mine on the other hand, doesn't. i have to install the software. But as far as the virtual thing. i have to look into this myself. Ive just been rotating my screen around by using ctrl alt then an arrow key to get the screen sideways. it just litterally takes forever to navigate. Probally not the best way to tune.

Adapter didn't come with a cd. I downloaded some drivers from some site I googled, but that didn't do anything. I just need to go back to Fry's electronics and try a different db9 to usb cable I guess.

radio shack has one but its kinda pricey. i got mine there for some odd 40 dollars. I didnt feel like waiting in the mail for mine so I hastily bought one. Or if you dont mind waiting... DIYautotune has one i believe for half the price of radioshack
