I want your 600 MAPs

i just got some nifty 600cc injectors, so now i would like to see and compare some of your maps.

if you could post comments such as lean tip in, fast idle, or other issues that you have, i would appreciate it.

TravisR 08-26-2009 09:17 AM

I'm going to have a new 600 map soon. I'll post it up as soon as I get it out.

lugie 09-15-2009 02:02 PM

Travis, has your 600 map been updated? Planning to start up the car for the first time in the next couple days, I could use a good map to start from.

TravisR 09-16-2009 11:30 PM

I need to update the map pack alot actually. I will have it up tomorrow. I just wanted to finish the transient manual so I could include that in the new packet as well.

Thanks Travis

I Too Need 600cc Injector maps for Adaptronic

I have Travis' maps that were on his website, but I have had so much trouble getting the Adaptronic to control idle properly that I want to see other maps that are up and running on other similar cars. My troubles could be caused by something unrelated to maps and settings, but substituting a good user map would help me narrow down the troubleshooting process.

I have a 2002 Miata with Adaptronic ecu, 3 bar MAP sensor, + LC-1, normally aspirated for the time being. I have a complete BEGI S3/S5 kit in hand to be installed but waiting on solving the ems problem. I expect that a map for a turbo'd 1.8 would work sufficiently well in the n/a range for me to establish idle control and compare settings. If anyone has an appropriate map they are happy with and would would be willing to share I would appreciate it. Please reply and I will PM you my email address.

Thanks, Norm

i too have idle issues. Runs great on cold days, but is tough to get started. won't idle worth a shit on warmer days but starts on command. Electrical load compounds the issue and causes it to stall out incredibly easily. A/F Ratio bounces around for no apparent reason at idle.

My gas mileage sucks right now.

Anyone know how to bet rid of declaration backfires.

Or better yet, is there anyone within 150 miles of 17225 that knows what they are doing. I need your help getting a good road tune.

Norm 10-22-2009 05:48 PM

Sounds just like my car, except I haven't had enough cold vs. warm days to experience that variation. Electrical loads (mainly when the fans kick on) kills my idle and usually results in stalling. A/C also made it unstable, then that seemed to clear up. During idle hunting and just before it stalls, the AFR's go very lean. Travis helped with lots of advice which seemed to make some improvements, but then the idle would go nuts again for no apparent reason. As I said in another thread about Deatschwerks 600cc injectors being too short, I finally gave up and reverted back to stock injectors and ecu to make a driving trip out of state this past weekend. The stock equipment idles and runs perfectly smooth, and neither electrical nor A/C loads affect the idle quality.

I see from your sig, swimming101, that you also run 600cc injectors. Deatschwerks by chance? See the tread https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t38394-2/ for my discussion on injector length affecting injector seal at the base of the injector. I can't get the theory out of my mind that the shorter injectors are resulting in a vacuum leak at the base of one or more injectors that could be the source of this idle control misery. Did you observe any difference in the length of your 600cc injectors vs. the stock ones? Could it be that an intermittent vacuum leak at the injectors could result in my intermittent idle control problems? Could that leak vary with temperature due to weather or the warming up of the engine? I could be way off, and I may be just wishing the problem exists because it is at least solvable. Hell, at this point I would throw the brand new DW injectors in the nearest river and buy some different ones if I knew that it would solve the problem.

I'm just thinking.

I need to actually tune an adaptronic personally on one of these 01+ cars. I don't know whats going on, but some people seem to have this issue and some don't. Matt yates runs an 01+ with absolutely zero problems, and there are others as well, but then some run into real problems. Its not at all as finicky as the 89-97 models though.

swimming108 10-23-2009 08:29 AM

i definately did have an issue with an injector not sealing correctly when i first installed them. The one that i had on the #3 cylinder was a little crooked. I did get that corrected however.

I am not sure if their shorter length is effecting things or not. I see your logic behind the situation, but i am not sure if there is a way to measure if there is any air leakage or not.

Although, during boosted runs, wouldn't i see a little fuel leaking out next to the injectors if they are not sealing properly? I will take a note of this and get back to you.

How about one of us meets up with the other travis? I will let you tune my car till your hearts content. looks like we are roughly 550 miles apart.

My idle settings are quite a bit different than the base map provided. Not perfect but works well enough.

swimming108 10-24-2009 04:08 PM

thanks SV650,
i tried your settings and it is different, but not necessarily better. it will still stall out sometimes.

This thing is starting to get a bit frustrating.

Since you had to swap back in your stock injectors, have you tried running the Adaptronic on your stock injectors to see if you can get a good consistent idle with it?

I realize that I'm suggesting you spend several hours worth of loading maps and messing around with tuning, but this would help isolate the injectors as a possible cause.

I'm quite curious, because I'm having similar problems with my '00, with exactly the same symptoms that you, swimming108, and others have reported: idle is just great cold, but when it heats up the idle goes all unstable, will stall with both fans running, headlights on (!), or A/C on.

BaronT, that is exactly what I plan to do very soon, but not for the same reason you referenced regarding the 600 cc injectors. I will be posting a detailed clarification in the Calling All Deatschwerks Owners thread in the next day or two, after I have coordinated with Travis, that will explain that my problem with the 600cc injectors was due to my own mistake of losing the fuel rail spacers without realizing it and bolting the rail back down without them. Once I found that error and reinstalled the spacers, the Deatschwerks injectors fit perfectly in a trial fit!!

I did not complete the 600 cc reinstall and run the engine because I plan to reinstall the stock injectors and tune with the Adaptronic just to see if stock injectors respond differently. I am no longer concerned about the lower injector seal. Actually, in addition to being embarrassed for a dumbass mistake, I am dissapointed I didn't discover a big vacuum leak that would solve the base idle problem.

I will probably not attempt tuning with stock injectors until early next week. My original Adaptronic ecu completely died (supposedly the first one ever) before I ever got it loaded. My replacement ecu should show up Mon or Tue according to Travis. He had loaned me his ecu out of his personal car temporarily. I will just wait until mine arrives, install it, and load some maps. Yes, it will be a pain in the ass to go through the procedure all over again, but I need the practice, and I am beginning to feel desparate to resolve the problem. I have a complete BEGI kit on my workbench I can't do anything with until I get the engine management sorted out.

I will post my progress as soon as I have any.

well i can solve your question with the stock vs the 600 injectors. I couldn't get either one to idle very well. i ran on the stock injectors for about 2 months while i was waiting for my turbo kit. so, i still think that it is a tuning issue. And i am a dumbass for not being able to figure it out yet.

timk 10-26-2009 09:00 AM

My idle leaves a lot to be desired as well, although it may not be completely our fault;
New Beta Wari 1.14 and Firmware 1.0R

They are working on improvements to the idle code by the looks of it.

swimming108 10-26-2009 04:50 PM

excellent news, i think that their attention would be needed in detecting electrical load. That seems to be a big issue in my idle.

TravisR 10-26-2009 06:29 PM

When you get a chance give that new firmware a solid look. My ECU is out on loan to customer at the moment.
