Running parallel fan

I am trying to figure out how to run both my A/C fan and Radiator Fan in parallel. I searched through the forum and found this once quoted by travis

"I figured it out! I knew the feature was available I just hadn't used it yet. Set your A/C fan to: OR and then select 2 logic channels 10 and 11 lets say. On 10 select A/C and on 11 select:Water temperature and then set the temperature you would like your fan to come on. That solves both problems with one stone, and no hacking of harnesses!"

I am running the Adaptronic plug and play harness for NA6. Would the above work for me?

TurboRoach 04-12-2010 12:32 PM

It should. All its doing is triggering the AC Fan relay which drives both fans in the stock configuration.

Thanks!
does that mean, if i do the above. Both fan will be on as long as water temp hits the threshold and it does not matter if A/C is not or not?

Yes if you do what Travis wrote then that should do it. When he wrote it, it was for my NB install but I think the wiring works the same way. That is there are separate grounds for the two fan relays.

If I set it up that way, will it trigger the a/c clutch?

Not if you're working with the A/C fan output.

Which tab is this set under? Aux Out? I guess I'm missing how to set the A/C fan to OR.

In the screenshot below, what do I need to do?

How does the ECU know that you want the OR operation between two specified outputs?

TurboRoach 04-13-2010 02:05 PM

Aux Out 9-13 are the logic channels. You can follow the quoted text exactly.

Then change the type of the AC Fan (Aux out 7 or 8, not sure which it is) from 'Air Conditioner' to 'OR'. If you used 10 & 11 as above then you would change one 'Output Channel' to 10 and the second to 11.

If you're not sure which Aux Out is the AC Fan, you can turn the key on and hit invert on that aux out. If the fans kick on then you go the right one.

pschmidt 04-13-2010 02:33 PM

Awesome, thank you. I was not aware the type could be changed on an Aux out.

Does anyone knows if the A/C Fan output is 1J for a 92 NA Miata? Which wire is the A/C request then?

nismo502 04-13-2010 09:07 PM

found it. Thanks.

ZX-Tex 04-13-2010 09:08 PM

Have you checked the Adaptronic wiring diagram?

nismo502 04-15-2010 12:25 AM

Hi all,
I have tried running Aux3 to "OR" on channel 10 and 11. Channel 10 is set to airconditioner and Channel 11 is set to water temperature 73/75.
Currently, for the wiring, Aux 3 goes to the A/C relay (1J) on the NA Miata ECU.

When Water temp hits 73/75, the radiatior fan is on and the A/C fan is also on. BUT, the A/C clutch engages and turns on the A/C too! This is even though I did not select A/C from the cabin.

Did I do anything wrong? Have any of you actually got it working?

TurboRoach 04-15-2010 02:15 AM

1J is to power the AC. Try 1R it should just do the fans. If that doesn't work then I don't think this mod will work on a 1.6

nismo502 04-15-2010 03:44 AM

I suspect it may not work for a 1.6
if 1R is for A/C fan, then which wire is it for Radiator fan? The adaptronic wiring diagram has 1S wired to digital input.

TurboRoach 04-15-2010 07:21 PM

Yeah, I just went through the wiring diagram and it looks like the AC fan gets its power from the same spot as the AC clutch. So it won't work for us. lame...

TravisR 04-15-2010 07:55 PM

Arg, you could wire a separate output for both from the cabin or manually wire both fans together. There should be plenty of spare auxiliary outputs if you wanted to use a spare. One for the AC fan and one for the clutch. If you need help on how to wire it let me know.

TurboRoach 04-15-2010 07:56 PM

I was hoping this would work with out any extra wiring :D
