Setting up an Adaptronic in a 96
So; I bit the bullet and bought an Adaptronic for my 96. I'm getting tired of hassling Travis through pm and email about the wiring and I decided to begin asking questions here so that I can get assistance in setting it up from those knowledgeable in electronics.
My first questions: 1) Since there's no wiring harness yet available for 96/97; could I buy and adapt a harness from Boomslang? 2) If so, which one should I buy? Thanks |
Adapting a boomslang harness would be almost as much work as getting just the connector and making your own from the loom that comes with the Adaptronic. Either way you have to map the pins yourself. I might change my story after I get into building my own tonight but the boomslang is kind of expensive if you're just going to hack one end off.

I'll follow your advice on the connectors. Travis told me to do precisely that. We'll see how it works out. |
Rafa, if you want, I can give you my adaptronic spreadsheets (excel) with all the pinout data so you can enter your own from the 96 shop manual.
|
Rafa,
If you purchase just the ecu it comes with a 0.5m loom with the Adaptronic connectors on one end and unterminated at the other. Like this. |
He bought his without the .5m loom though. I think he just wants the plugs and is going to pin the connectors.

I'd appreciate that if it's not too much trouble y8s. I think that will help my local electrician a lot. I got the 96 shop manual and Travis was also kind enough to send me the wiring diagrams. |

If I'm not mistaken, the Adaptronic guys don't have a wire loom for 96 models. Don't forget that 96 was the first OBDII year. What I'm trying to do is to make it as fool proof as I can for the electrician. I was telling Travis that I thought the key to Stein's perfect install was his thoroughness when it came time to make the electrical install. BTW, thanks guys for the assistance. :bigtu: |

there's all sorts of caveats that go with this file. it's MY project file, not the official harness. just keep that in mind. it does have all the adaptronic pinouts in it and the rest is just how I plan to set up my parallel install and basically let the stock ECU run as much as possible. it should at least give you good ideas how to set up an earlier car. |

I thank you. It surely makes it simpler to do. |
y8s,
I noticed on your spreadsheet that you have the injectors hooked up: Adap-Inj: 1-1 2-2 3-3 4-4 Shouldn't it be 1-4 2-1 3-2 4-3 ? Or am I reading pg 14 of the install manual incorrectly? It says the adaptronic number is the order they fire in not cylinder number. |
pg 14 is what is right. it fires 1 2 3 4. so they should be hooked up:
adap-CYLINDER 1-1 2-3 3-4 4-2 because our firing order is 1-3-4-2 (dont know where you got 4-1-2-3) the factory service manual labels the injectors in firing order, not in cylinder order. I have it the same in my hydra wiring spreadsheet and FM's hydra spreadsheet and so does the Adaptronic wiring diagram from Adaptronic... so... whatever is in my spreadsheet is right for my car. what the FSM calls "injector 1-4" is not cylinder 1-4 in order. |
Is 1-3-4-2 the firing order for all miatas? or just 1.8s?
|
most 4 cylinder engines are 1-3-4-2
|
Hey Travis; I need your help. I sent you an email.
My electrician just told me I need the connectors and those can't be found locally. |
Email sent!

That was fast! Got it. Thanks |
So, on the harness (factory harness)....
Y-1 Y/B -2 G/W -3 G-4 |
whose harness? not the adaptronic harness. that's purple, white, pink, gray. (1,2,3,4 or cyl 1,3,4,2)
|
No, miata ecu pinout colors...on the drawing I have, it only says 1&3 - 2&4 but not which is which specifically...or maybe I am missing something about the drawing.
