VVT doesn't seem to work

I noticed this a while ago when looking at my logs, but never thought about it. My logged VVT angle doesn't seem to ever change. It stays at ~17 the whole time. I am guessing that the number isn't the real angle too, because the map for VVT goes from 1 to 30 depending on rpm. I am using the base map vvt settings. I attached an old log and an old map. No idea if that is my current map or not

Who else has logged VVT? Does it actually work? How do the numbers relate to cam phasing?

did you rewire/fix/what ever it was you have to do to make vvt work? vvt never worked on my 02 car and travis had to mod my ecu. know they found a problem with vvt and idle on random 01+ cars, not sure if you are affected but a thought.

I think I am supposed to have one of the new fixed ecus. It had the new decal on it and Travis said something about it being a new one.

Just at a quick glance...

You don't appear to have the VVT output enabled. Where you have your EBC is where most of us have the VVT. You can use AUX 3 since it's PWM; but you will not get anything unless you configure it :)

Ohh, what Firmware version are you running? I see your map is not in VE mode?

Black sticker = new HW version with Diode mod

Red sticker = original series

Well damnit that would explain it. I was just using the basemap settings. Be right back

Holy crap it works. I looked back at the base map and I guess I never noticed that section.

The map was one that Travis sent me from a dyno tuned car. I guess he had an EBC, because I definitely don't. It is in pw because it was the only time the car ran well. I was thinking about converting to ve before my dyno tune. Does the conversion work pretty well?

Edit: I also had to change the reference angle. It came with an angle of 85* and my full retard was reading ~17*. I reset the reference angle to 102* and now full retard is ~0. Was that the right thing to do?

i'm running random turbo 99 map with ve on and idle set to stock ecu. car runs grate for driving around town and starting. will work fine tell i drop it off at the tuner

just a heads up, i wouldn't go beating on it with the vvt enabled without retuning your fuel. there could be places where the motor makes 40% more power and needs as much more fuel. ie you might be super lean.

AutoFreak57 08-28-2010 02:02 PM

Yeah, I am planning on going out, converting to ve, and retuning the midrange. I have an autox tomorrow, so it needs done :). If I can't get it right today, I can always disable it for tomorrow.
