Default 99 Turbo w/ RX7 550cc injectors up and running

I wired everything up about 1 full year ago. Plugged in the adaptronic and it had no power so I towed the car to storage and it sat that way for a year.

Finally for a chance to work on it tonight and found a blown Engine fuse. Replaced the fuse and the ECU finally had power. I reflashed the firmware immediately and loaded the boundary engineering base map. After adding fuel to the cranking fuel settings I was able to get the car to start easily and it idled very well almost immediately.

I still have to wire up my wideband again. I removed all the power wiring when I removed my megasquirt and I still have to run the input for the wideband to the adaptronic. I also have to plump my boost gauge tubing in again to remove that vacuum leak.

Then the fun starts. It ran incredibly well though for about 3-5 minutes. I now have a lot more reading to do to understand the full capability of the ECU. I'll get the hardware sorted and start tuning later this week. I'll be able to get the car on the dynapack and tune the spark map with 93 and 98.5 octane as well. That information will at least provide people with a good understand of what the timing limits are for an intercooled 1.8 at 9:1 compression with a T3 60 trim.

I'll use this thread to post updates.

I've been messing with maps and reading a lot the past few days. I have a lot more to read and a lot of adjustments to make.
I found that the base map is setup for peak and hold when I got home from work. I run high impedance injectors that do no use peak and hold though so I'm sure that has been effecting my tuning some. I'll be trying a lot more tomorrow and hopefully it will idle better. I'm not sure why it idled so well the first night but I've been unable to replicate that. The car is getting a new battery and a new set of plugs to help my efforts. I'll post up my map once I have things straightened out. It will be nice to get it running well enough to do some street tuning.

Andy (Adaptronic staff) mentions this on the forum:
Injectors drivers setup and what injectors to use?

Long and short of it is: select peak-hold mode and 0.9A, whether you're running low impedance or high impedance injectors. The only 4-cyl engine I've not found this to work on is the Suzuki Swift GTI, which for some reason needs a higher current (1.5A) to inject properly.

I still do not get this. If I turn peak-and-hold off, and max the current limit, how can the Adaptronic actually drive the injector open faster with peak-and-hold? All it is doing is switching the ground on and off, using the same transistor it uses for peak-and-hold. So unless it is creating a voltage potential that is lower than ground, how can peak-and-hold create more current through the injector? The max current is determined by the voltage (12-14V) and the injector impedance (~13 ohm) which is about 1 amp (I=V/R). The max current limit setting on the Adaptronic is well above that. And, it cannot exceed 1A (I=V/R) no matter what it does unless like I said it creates negative DC potential at the ground switch point. I doubt it does that.

In that thread Andy talks about transistor dynamics so maybe there is something about the behavior of the transistors and the way they are switched in peak-hold mode that allows a faster current rise time.

Some have reported better results with peak-and-hold on high impedance injectors. I have tried it both ways and see no difference. I am an ME though not an EE so maybe an analog circuit guy can step in here.

I'm boosting around at 7 psi like crazy as of today. Running a sweet combination basemap that allowed me to start the car, idle it up and rapid learn 80% of the entire map in about an hour of driving. The closed loop rapid learn auto tune on the adaptronic works very well. There is some obvious hand smoothing that needs to take place on a few cells it tuned but that's nothing I can't handle. I let it tune 0-100kpa then i limited it's tuning function to 100-300kpa so I could change the AFR target table to the values i needed to keep the interpolation from ruining everything.
Adaptronic really needs a larger target table but it's really not that big of a deal.

Anyway, the car runs great but I have alot of work to do with the warmup enrichment, idle, and load drop idle. All kinds of fun stuff. Then I'll hook the EBC back up and really start having some fun.

Might get lucky and end up with enough time to get it on the dyno for some ignition tuning.
