AEM FIC delayed throttle response

2 Attachment(s)
I finished wiring in my FIC this evening and fired up the car (94 miata). With the jumper harness installed it runs the same as it did before, however when I connected the FIC it has a delayed throttle response. When I snap the throttle it seems like its a half second slow to respond. I can slow rev the engine no problem, but when i snap it, the afr's go way lean for that split second before she responds to the throttle input.

I updated the sofware/firmware on the fic before firing up the car. Currently using z110hex, but I read on a forum that that was for batch fired injectors and on the 94-95 miata it is sequintial. Injector dead time was left at the default setting of 405. I was also wondering what the acceleration box is for, there is nothing about it in the owners manual and I cant seem to find any information on it. What are the acceleration setting for, how do they affect the fueling?

94-95 is seq fuel.

Did you calibrate the TPS?

nelson8708 11-29-2015 06:42 PM

I did calibrate the tps.

I went ahead and tried the 107hex file, problem fixed. Later this week I'll try to start playing with the fuel tables. Once I get a handle on it I'll throw the rx8 injectors in.

I don't supposed you have a base map I can start from since I'll be switching to the same injectors you're running @fwman1 ??

You're better off to tune the car with your wideband and stock injectors from zero to low boost. Once you have that set and are ready to turn up the boost, then you can drop in your new injectors and use the injector converter in FIC to redraw your map for the new injectors. That was the path I took and it worked out well. After doing the injector swap, the injector conversion in the FIC, and tweaking my dead times, I had to make only slight adjustments to my maps. It works well.

Did you do any adjustments in the "acceleration" box? I haven't found any information on what those adjustments are for. I'll probably end up emailing AEM and see what all those setting help with.

I am still on 3.05, and am happy with my tune so I have no experience with the enrichment. When I was supercharged, I intercepted my TPS to do a poor man's version of acceleration enrichment. When I went turbo, the rate of boost increase was manageable without it.
This is from AEM.
Acceleration Enrichment Pump:
Please note the TPS signal must be connected for the acceleration enrichment pump to
be activated.
These settings are used to emulate an acceleration enrichment pump. Sensitivity will
determine how fast or slow conditions must change in order to activate the acceleration
enrichment pump. Fuel percentage will set how much fuel will be added to whatever
area of the map the abrupt increase in load is applied to. Limit percentage is the
maximum amount of fuel increase you want to allow for. Duration in ms is the amount of
time the pump will be activated for when the F/IC senses an abrupt change in throttle
position.

Thank you sir, found it a little odd they had features that were not explained in the manual.

the manual is lacking to say the least.

what you are looking for is the acceleration section of the setup page. this is kindof like your tip in throttle.

here is what those sections mean:

Sensitivity = pump is triggered when the throttle changes by X% so lower numbers makes the FIC more sensitive to throttle changes to add tip in fuel.

Fuel = amount of extra fuel to add over the current injector pulse.

Limit = The maximum extra fuel that can be added so this should be more than your fuel number in the acceleration section. You could set this to something like 100%

Duration = Time for the extra fuel to drop to zero.
