CAS modification for accurate cam timing.
Has anyone modified the standard CASinside so we can get an accurate timing pulse off it?
I run an EMS4 and my tuner struggled to get it working as it was scattering, which I believe is common. So he just went off a36-1 crank trigger. Anyone managed to do this? |
There's a replacement wheel available from another car, however the scatter is caused by the deflection/stretch of the timing belt. There's absolutely nothing reasonable that could be done to fix scatter whilst still using the CAS.
Stick with the crank trigger. That said plenty of people use the CAS at decent power levels with no issues. Maybe you need a new tuner? |
What he said. There are plenty of 4G63s, using the exact same sensor, making enough reliable power to would make the Mazda B blush.
If you must have a higher tooth count wheel, AEM has their 12+1 wheel and the Nissan 360 wheel also swaps in. |
It does nothing for belt stretch, but it does allow you to have a higher res CAS trigger wheel.
Should do something. Yoshifab.com - High resolution DSM CAS trigger disk |
I hadn't realised it was the timi g belt causing the problems,I will take the cas apart and see what I can do if any.
|
That wheel takes it from 4 teeth to 24, which is as high res as I know available for an internal CAS based modification.
I'm happy with ours. We may still go to a crank mounted 36-1 wheel at a later date. |
Am I barking up the wrong tree,if I already have the 36-1 crank sensor working well, do I really need the cam sensor too?, will it help with anti lag/launch control?

Adding the cam sensor also enables fully sequential ignition drive, though this is of interest only to those who have already converted to COP (or some similar coil-per-plug topology) and, again, have an ECU capable of driving four ignition channels. |
Out of curiosity, can the AEM EMS4 pickup the 36tooth trigger wheel and actually make use of it?
|
Yes,that's all mine runs on.
|
Can AEM EMS4 run sequential everything on just the crank sensor/trigger wheel, or do you need a periodic cam input.
|
You would need a cam input, so the ecu can see what stroke it's on.....I think.
