Digital AEM boost gauge -w- AEM EMS
 
OK... I swapped out my MSD Map sensor for an AEM digital boost gauge/sensor.

I've got everything all wired and used the 0-5v white wire coming from the AEM gauge. No matter what I do... I can't even get an accurate reading.

With the car off, the gauge shows "0" yet the AEM Pro is showing 1.4psi(fluctuating very quickly by about a tenth each way) I have it hooked into the MAF input on the ECU and went into my settings to double check.

I really don't want to have to run 2 different MAP sensors on the car, HELP!

It sounds like its not configured properly or the connections are bad. What sensor do you have 2bar 3bar 3.5bar? Did you go into setup wizard and under map select the right one. Selecting the wrong one will give you the wrong reading.

I may be going down the wrong path. If I am then disregard what I just wrote. Hope it helps.

its supposed to be a 3.5 bar sensor I believe... I did go into settings and in the wizard and select that sensor. I selected the 5bar sensor as well and that made the reading WAY off so its not that one. Under sensor options, it shows .5V-4.5V as a low to high reading...I can modify that number to get the readings to show properly...but I don't think its a good idea...unless it needs "configuring" somehow.

Its not soldered in or anything now.

I'm sharing the 12v switched power and the ground with my AFR gauge and the white "0-5v" wire goes to the ECU.

It all seems pretty basic.

PS... Jared, everytime I see the "have a great day" I picture Elmo giving me the finger.

You may want to try using seperate power and ground. I would be more inclined to say its the ground that is causing the problem. For some reason I think I remember reading that the a/f sensor should be on its own ground due to feedback interfearance. try that and go from there. Also the maop should be wired into the ecu sensor ground.

Good point!

I'll double check and make sure the ground is "sensor ground"

The gauge itself is reading perfectly so that kind of odd... but we'll see.

....If I took things seriously...I would have left this forum a LONG time ago... haha!

I dont know how the guage is wired. Is the computer controlling the guage or is the guage sending the signal to the computer like the wideband is wired?

I completely agree on the taking lif serious and this forum comment.

Here are the instructions.

Ground = Same as my wideband gauge
Switched 12v = Same as my wideband gauge
RS232 = Not Used
0-5v = Goes to Maf input signal and I switch the AEMpro to use the Maf input signal

Alright, looked into it and it makes no difference... I did however call AEM a few hours ago. This is now a RANT thread.

So... AEM sells this gauge with an output and clearly states that it can be used with ANY EMS and Dataloger that accepts a 0-5v input.

Over the phone, the guy told me that the brass sensor that comes with the kit should not be used as a boost reference for the EMS.
He told me the Brass Sensor is not very accurate.
He said there was a Stainless Steel 3.5bar sensor that is much more reliable and can be used, HOWEVER, he stated that I STILL shouldn't use the 0-5v output even with the better sender because of the electronics in the gauge itself that might mess it up as well.

So in the end, it was recommended that I have 2 sensors, 1 for the gauge and 1 for the ems. Stupid.

/end rant, guess I'll stick with the MSD 3 Bar map I had before...what a waste.

That sucks. Sorry you had a bad experience. I have their 2bar map sensor and am planning on going with a mechanical gauge when I put one in. Not that I should need one running the Rotrex.
