EMS4 Rad. fan issue

So I have finished the ECU tuning and have one odd issue that has me baffled. The AEM is basically wired so that the stock ECU controls everything except the engine. I have done enough testing to know that both fans work (as they come on with AC), and I have since replaced the temp sensor and fan relay. I tried to run one of the AEM GP wires directly to the rad fan with no luck. I first tried to set it to come on as 12V and also tried to make it send a ground. In order to see if it was working I set to come on at a low coolant temp and stuck a test light in the cigarette lighter with the ground of the tester connected to the GP. It seems as though this should be pretty straight forward. Just wondering if I am missing something simple with regard to setting the GP up?

Try changing your GPIO you're using. We ran into this issue on a couple of setups. The fan would not activate no matter what we did... then we changed GPIO and it started working as it should have. The previous GPIO was still good but it would not operate normally as a fan controller.

switched to another GP and still having the same issue. Maybe I am not setting something right. Under configure outputs I selected the correct GPIO, set it to rad fan 1, enable pin is checked and then I tried to do both send 12v and ground separately and neither one seemed to do anything. at one point I had a test light ground on the wire and stuck the probe end on a known 12v and I was getting an alternating off and on power (although when that happened it was also set to be sending 12V). Am I doing something wrong?

You may want to log/watch the GPIO channels when doing your testing. If you see the ECU turn the GPIO on you should see your test light turn on as well. If you do not see the GPIO turn on then you should see no light. This will confirm that the ECU is actually controlling the output when you think it is.

Bringing this back up because I'm having a similar issue. Its like I have no control of my GPIOs. No matter what I do GPIO 3 is on, and I want to use it to control VICS, I'm using it as a low side switch as all switches should be. And no matter what I do GPIO 4 is off and reads 0v and grounded, and my clutch switch is wired to this and I've confirmed that at the ecu connector the clutch switch is operating properly. Both of these show no response to the stupid annoying configure outputs box and I cant figure out how to do much of anything with them on anything else. I've tried the VICS as VTEC, a general purpose and user pulse width.

How are you confirming what is on the GPIOs? with a multimeter/test light at the wire or based on what the ecu is telling you by looking at the corresponding GPIO channels?

For the clutch switch the ECU disagrees with the multimeter, mutli meter shows resistance to ground changing based on the clutch switch, ecu thinks its always grounded. For the VICS the ecu and the multimeter agree, ecu signal line is always grounded, ecu says output is always on, no matter what its supposed to be doing based on my settings, including disabling the pin.

Are you looking at the GPIO tab? If you have a GPIO position backwards you will see another channel change.

I see no other changes when I change things. And I've confirmed that my GPIO3 is pin 12 (VICS) and GPIO4 is pin 13 (clutch). I dont really have a GPIO tab, I've got one that I've forced all the raw inputs and outputs of the GPIOs to, but I have no tab to be able to change their settings, just have to use that damn nested window.

The EMS-4 workspace definitely has a GPIO tab. You are either not on the correct firmware or you are not in the correct workspace. Where or who did you get your EMS-4 from?

Trackspeed. Its a Rev C Mods D unit with, 20.01v24 firmware. I've got a less than useful gpio troubleshooting tab, but thats it for gpio tabs.

It has the voltages In and it has what the condition of the channel output. including other data for some of the other GPIO channels. Were they unable to help you with these issues? Have you tried removing the circuit from your Clutch sw circuit and manually grounding the pin to verify what you are seeing on the channel? If you are getting inconsistant information you need to discuss this with AEM and they will recommend and action or they will recommend you send the unit in for testing and inspection.

To touch back on this my GPIO 3 was set to be both the AC Clutch and the shift light in the base map I had. I saw the AC clutch, did not see the shift light. But this is what made the output always on.

GPIO4 issue. I just needed to unplug the neutral switch on the trans and then the clutch switch worked. Now I need to figure out VSS because 2 step with no VSS = rev matching impossible.
