Need help tuning for 91 octane
 

Help! Long story short, I am going to travel to California in 36 hours in my Miata and have always used 94 octane gasoline and was told that the Miata requires 94 octane. The previous owner (dustinb) came over and de-tuned the car to allow for 91 octane - TPS controlled boost was lowered to 9.71 psi and some more fuel was dumped to the in-boost fuel cells. Problem is, I took the car out on the street for the first time since the tune and my boost gauge is still showing me hitting around 11 psi and I definitely saw 13 psi when it bounced off the rev limiter. My laptop was showing 14.75 engine load at full boost...

I am very novice when it comes to tuning and I need help to get the car to run safely on 91 octane. Short time frame, I know, but any and all help is appreciated.

I have attached the Cal file (uploaded as .ecu due to file limits)

open timing table 1.

highlight all boosted row.

click the minus button.

enter 5.

click burn.

go have fun in CA.

Thanks Brain. Sorry for sounding like a complete and utter novice but... where can I find the Timing Table? I can't seem to find any "Timing Table" in AEMPro in particular...

Spoon feed?

Is it the Ignition Map in AEMPro that you call the Timing Table...?

5 degrees timing pull after a probably already nerfed map?

sorry, i assume everyone has a MS and knows how to use it.

If you're that clueless I'd let someone that knows what they're doing touch it. Or read up on the AEM forums on where everything is located and what to do.

Cause if he already dumbed down your timing and richened up mixture, and you do it 5* more, you may have it running so retarded and rich that you can melt stuff

Right, this is probably true. I really am clueless when it comes to tuning my own ECU. I, unfortunately, never really took the time to mess around with it much and am now in a bit of a crunch. I don't believe that he touched the timing at all, just the boost and the fuel but I can't be positive.

I will see what I can dig up on the AEM forums, just figured I would toss it out there any hope that someone could open up my tune and make it work/spoon feed me through it all.

If there are any AEM tuners out there that happen to get an :idea: moment, any and all help is welcome :)

Is there any recommendation/general rule of thumb for what timing I should be running to allow for 91 octane going up to ~13 psi? What timing are you guys running on your MS?
