Hello from New Zealand. Some really great info and knowledge here, of which I'm hoping to get some direction from.

I have a 98 NB ('99 in US speak) that I built primarily for Targa NZ (that is stage racing on closed roads, max speed 200km/h (124mph)) but am also using at Ruapuna Raceway which is our local racetrack. 3.3km (2m) circuit with an 850m (0.5m) main straight.

Car specs at the moment are standard mechanicals (112whp) other than a 4.44 FD, and no aero (no spoiler lip, no front lip). Top speed at the end of the Ruapuna straight is around 167-169km/h (~105mph) and on some very long Targa Rds we hit 192km/h (~119mph). There are plans for more NA power, Link ECU, headshave etc.

I'm heartened to see that as far as I can tell, there are good gains to be had with aero even if you are not running decent hp.

After that long build-up, my question is where to start? Unfortunately shipping costs from the US for GT style wings and complete front splitter kits is a killer (particularly in the CV-19 era), so I'm trying to work out where to first.

Budget option I guess is a generic front lip with a home-made splitter (2-3" projection?) and an e-bay ducktail?
Then probably stepping up to BBFL lexan spoiler with the same front as above?
Then try to find some local(ish) supplier of aero section alloy and make a GT style wing?
And at some point upgrade the front to a full wrap around HDPE style dam/splitter?

All advice gratefully received.

Most splitters and air dams are homemade. You will need to adjust how far it extends in front of the dam to create balance front to rear.

I noticed a small but real difference above 100mph with a trunklid spoiler, but it definitely won't be as effective as a wing up in clean air. But the spoiler might not create as much drag, depending upon size.

Most wings were DIY for mounting until the last few years. I would consider Nine Lives Racing's Big Wang if buying a kit.

Do you have a hard top? If not I would definitely start there.

The Nine Lives wing is really nice. It's the only one I know of that adds significant downforce without much of a drag penalty. Those guys have definitely put the work in from a development standpoint. I'm sure you can cobble something together with local supplies, but there's really no way to know the results until you're done with the project.

Considering your location and maybe how much your willing to message a thing into working....there are a ton of Japanese options for proper wings on the S2000. 9Lives and APR if your willing to ship it from USA. I've done Circuit of the America's in a stockish NB and I can't imagine why you'd consider any aero. These cars with no power adders are pretty much flat out at a ton of tracks.

COTA I believe is a very open fast circuit so low powered NB wouldn’t gain much from aero, but as a real world example on the tracks we run down under I gained approx two seconds a lap at each track with just a splitter, airdam and wing on my 130whp NB.
Any time you can’t hold it flat through any corner is a potential opportunity for aero to help.
Also braking at the end of the straights is also improved with aero as you can really stand on the pedal in the early parts of the braking zone, that without aero causes a locked wheel. I am now a strong believer in aero, and not just for 400hp cars
