To my knowledge, we've done some of the most data-driven testing I've seen on fairly standard track Miata configurations here. TLDR, do aero. Have a hardtop minimum, dream about fastbacks.

Reguarding diffuser shaping and ride height.
To keep in mind stock ride height is something like 7" someone correct me if I'm wrong. and we're looking at something like a maximum of 5" ride height with a diffuser (which is kinda ridiculous but ok)
I think we could do 90mm (3.54") easily tho which would get us something much more reasonable at a 26 degree angle and something I'm much more comfortable saying would be within the realm of returns.
This would also give us plenty of space in track conditions with track suspension for ground clearance depending on your setups maximum compression height. Speaking of does anyone know how much bump stops compress? Definitely something to take into account considering we're not going to have too terribly much clearance.

This is awesome info... I'm running air dam with front undertray, but no splitter... and blackbird fab spoiler. Seems like I will be making a splitter this winter... in addition to cutting the rear bumper.
Question... do you run a full car undertray / "flat floor"? I am planning on doing one this winter with a rear diffuser inside of a cut out bumper. A good winter project that is relatively cheap. Any thoughts or testing you guys have done? I was thinking of using aluminum... doing a Left and a Right side... basically splitting at the exhaust... and then a NACA duct for trans/diff... or something along those lines. Still in research phase... not finding much info on miata forums.
Seems like everyone puts on the rear diffuser... but from the little I know of aero... it's not going to do anything without a flat undercar. There's a reason my c7 corvette has a flat floor right? Surely modern supercars have them for a reason?

This channel puts out solid in depth aero content often using miatas as an example.

I've got friends that are engineers and use software for what they call CFD analysis. It shows the airflow over a shape and you can see where the flow is laminar or turbulent and make improvements. We need to find someone that has this software.
Only thing is that I'm pretty sure its pricey if you dont use it for work. I'm not sure they can get away with using it for me but I can ask. Worst they can say is no.
