Singular Motorsports Fender Louvers for NA & NB

It's about time! These have been in the works and getting revisions for several years at this point. Used with lots of success on the HyperMiata in conjunction with a fender cut, but also tested with great results on an otherwise unmodified front fender.

Position is ideal in the highest pressure region of the wheel well, fins are optimized, overall shape is visually pleasing (IMO), I've got them dialed in. They pull a load of air out of the fender, reduce front end lift (more downforce) and improve the efficiency of brake cooling to boot. The only thing that was holding me back from releasing these much sooner was I really wanted to get one version hammered out that works in both NA and NB fenders. I've had them ready to go for the NA for a long time now, but the extra work of getting an NB fender under the knife and developing the template and shape further kept getting kicked down the list as a plethora of other projects and priorities kept getting thrown in. Finally this year, I got an NB in the shop for this purpose and after a few more revisions I've got it nailed for both generations.

Install is going to be a touch more work than the hood louvers, simply because you're dealing with more curvature in the fender than a relatively flat hood, but it's very doable. Like all our louvers, a vinyl cut template and dimensions are included to make the job straightforward. Obviously, you'll need to either trim or remove your plastic inner fender liner for these to be effective. I don't have a picture of a production sample to show yet as all the prototypes have been bare aluminum, but they'll come anodized black just like the hood louvers.

Another angle:

At this point, I'm just working out final production details and about to hit the green light to start making them. Aiming to have kits shipping around the end of the year.

Thinking about doing a group buy on the first batch of these, just like we did for the very first NA and NB hood louver kits years ago. MiataTurbo is where Singular Motorsports started, and I'd love to make it possible for you guys who are interested here to get your hands on these at a discount. Who's interested?

I'm in, assuming they don't interfere with the Left Lane Designs vents. Hard to tell from the pics.

I'm definitely interested but it looks like they might be larger than the allowable opening size in GLTC. Any idea how many square inches that is?

I'm interested. I got in on the original group buy for the hood louvers here too (got my limited edition pink Singular Motorsports decal). I have a separated question I'm going to PM you on about the hood louvers.

Interested for sure. I've asked about these both times I talked to you at COTA, so I feel like I have to get a set.

Also interested…these & hood lovers are on the winter projects list.

I think you're good to go. Looks like there's a couple inches between the upper corner of those and where these begin.

~75 sq in. so larger than GLTC allows by a good bit.
One could do a partial cover to choke the opening area down to the 45 sq in limit, and then the cover would be removable for non-restricted events...

I'm in.

cabowabo 10-17-2022 01:43 PM

I'm sad these are too big for GLTC bc they look sweet.

Also TIL GLTC has fender vent limits.

Mtobler2006 10-17-2022 03:49 PM

Im in, They look awesome!

I'm not against doing a GLTC version of these, which could be produced within the same first batch. It would be smaller (obviously), essentially a trimmed down version of the unrestricted full size fender louver. For the most effective use of that limited venting area allowed, you'd want to keep the forward most portion and trim the excess area off the rear. I just played with things a bit to see what works within 45 sq. in. and it would essentially be the forward 5 louvers. Still enough area to be quite effective and maximize the potential within that ruleset.

Here's a quick photoshop for what a GLTC version would look like:

Got back to a computer and upon taking a closer look, I agree. In.

Arca_ex 10-18-2022 08:11 AM

I would definitely be in for a set of the GLTC versions if you decide to produce them.

If not I would likely still get the normal version and figure out some sort of block off plate though.

cabowabo 10-18-2022 09:58 AM

I'm fine with getting the vent as-is and then blocking off what I need to per rules. No need to customize for us dorks.

Got a cover plate drawn up that should do the trick. Because the NA and NB fender have slightly different curvature it would ship flat and you bend it to match the curve of your fender. Swap out the rivets on the rear 6 holes for M4 bolts/nuts and you've got a removable plate that brings the opening size of the vent down to GLTC requirements, or remove it for unrestricted days. Benefit of this approach is that anyone with the fender louvers can get the cover plate later if they decide down the road to run in that series.
I don't think we'd need to anodize these - just supply them in bare aluminum as you'd most likely want to paint them body color. Thoughts?

That's awesome, would definitely be in for vents/block off plate. If they were gonna be painted I'd just take em black so from a distance / in pictures it just looks like full size vent...bc the full size vent looks rad.

Nice looking parts! curious, do you have a photo of how they look on the NB you tested fitment on?

Z_WAAAAAZ 10-25-2022 05:06 PM

Another dude interested in the group buy :wavey: Sub'd for updates.

So far, just a bare aluminum prototype in a rough NB fender for development purposes. Keep in mind there were at least three revisions in this fender so it's not a perfect example of the finished version. But if you look past the junkyard finish and imagine a nice fender with black louvers, I think it's going to look just as good in an NB as an NA.
