BEGi does it in the rear?
So, Corky decided he wanted to take a stab at rear mount on a 2006 mx5. Interesting. Here are the results. (sorry if this is a repost, i didnt see another one)

Good god... say it isn't so.

Why not try it if you have the resources? The article does say that the production kit will be under the hood though.

i would hope so. i can't see the intercooler being behind the turbo as a good thing for cooling the charge air. unless you drive backward over bridges in the rain....

I dont understand. If they plan to put it under the hood why experiment with it in the back? Just for shits and giggles? No ones gonna buy a rear mount, seems like a waste of resources.
I wonder whos soup pot they cannibalized for the turbos heatshield. |
It actually looks like the easiest approach to get the thing boosted while you worked on the electronics to manage it. Get the computer up and running, then get the thing to fit under the hood.

If you followed the thread on m.net Corky absolutely did not want to produce a kit that was "offroad" only. I believe one of his employees just went at it, and now they are going to refine the system.
I had a strong suspicion it was going to be a rear mount for the longest while. Before the -S kit was released actually, which I thought was going to be the announcement of this kit. |
Yuck.

I wonder if Kurt Rohmer was on retainer for technical advice...

Why the hating on the rear mounts anyway? The only thing I'd realy worry about is cooling of the intake charge on the way down the pipe. The IC in the back of the turbo DOES look pretty suspect to me, in fact, why bother with an intercooler at all with so much piping? Even a tiny water/air IC at the front would get out that last three joules of heat but with 10 feet of piping you can't possibly care. And it would look really stock if you make any effort to do so.
Plus, you could cook stew in your trunk, or really any crockpot dish. |

betcha the final product will have a front mount and a better exhaust setup. |
WTF cares about the NC, I'm more interested in the 99 timing and fuel solution
|
If you've got the parts and the time why not try? A couple of years ago Megasquirt would have seemed ridiculous to try. Home built ECU - are you kidding me?
If people didn't try new ways to do things we would still be riding horses and all porn would be in the missionary position. |
