Coolant Re-Routes Finally Straightened Out

We have two coolant Re-route systems available. The Turbo Re-route and the Racer Re-route.

The Turbo Re-Route System is designed to promote greater coolant flow thru the rear of the cylinder head. The spacer has bungs for the temp. sensor as well as the heater core return. A third bung is included for any other sensor you would like to add. It is a 3/8 NPT. An optional 4th bung can be added if needed.

This spacer runs the coolant from the back of the cylinder head to the upper radiator hose. The front thermostat will be blocked off. It will leave the stock heater core system intact for normal warm procedures.

The Turbo Re-route System includes gaskets, mounting hardware, rubber and aluminum routing lines, hose clamps, rear thermostat housing, front thermostat block off plate, Kia water neck, and thermostat. The final version does not have mounting tabs on the intake manifold.

** NOTE ** This is the revised system that used to be call the racer re-route. As it leaves the heater core intact, it does not need to be called the racer re-route.

The second system is the Racer Re-route. The Racer Coolant Re-route System is used on any Miata to help reduce operating coolant temps. It runs the coolant from the heather core (at the firewall) to the upper radiator hose. It eliminates the mixing manifold, therefore making engine warm up times increase. The kit includes gaskets, mounting hardware, hose clamps, coolant line plug, and an upper radiator hose splice.

We thank you for all your help in getting the right parts together and called the correct name. :)

Looks good to me.

Does the turbo reroute use an oem style thermostat in the rear of the head? I assume that's what the counterbore in the spacerplate is for. Horray if it does.

Prices?

Stephanie,

Could you please link the install instructions for the Turbo Re-Route? I could not find them on your site.

Thanks

Pretty good price I think.

How much fun is that thing gonna be to install while the head is in the engine bay? I'm gonna say next to impossible, especially with another piece bolted to the back of it, front t-stat "cap" or otherwise.

Plus it's gonna be a whore to change the t-stat on that thing.

Your hands are smaller then Jes', I think you will manage.

paul 04-10-2009 07:37 PM

I will manage because I'm not buying it.

Thank you. Yes, there is a new thermostat included for the rear of the head. It is OEM for something, not sure what though. I am pretty sure Tim choose it for the temp. rating.

I do not have them. I never did an official version, but I will. Eraser-X is kind enough to take install photos for me. So once that is done, I will write up the instructions.

Installing this with the engine in the car can be done. However it will be a major PITA. Expect a few bloody knuckles.

Stephanie

you should post that on the actual site. would give people a good idea of what they would be getting into.

I think you are right. :)

i have that turbo reroute and it works but its a huge bitchhhhhh to get in without removing the transmission or engine. also if i had to change the thermostate i would hate it because i know its going to be a bitchhh. i also had to use a big hammer to get the thermostate to plug in. because there is no space on the firewall so my fire wall has a huge dent in it now. i would only buy one now if i needed to change out the clutch or remove the engine.

Steph, I'm glad we were able to get all that worked out. The descriptions and photos on the website following our discussion a few weeks ago look correct.

I just got back from Vegas and found mine sitting on the doorstep last night.

Initial observation- looks pretty good. The spacer appears reasonably well-made, and those hose clamps you guys include are really nice. (we're talking near T-bolt strength in a conventional screw-type design). Didn't come with a hose-barb fitting for the heater core, but I expect I can dig that up at ACE.

The bolts included appear to be a bit on the long side. When I stack up the spacer, the two included gaskets, and my Protege water neck, there's still a bit of unthreaded portion sticking out. Could be due to the fact that I've got a different water outlet than the one you guys use.

And that outlet may also be a problem for me. The diameter of the neck is about 1.1", whereas the hoses and pipes that came with the kit are 1.25". I haven't removed my upper radiator hose yet to measure the radiator inlet pipe and the stock water outlet, but I'm guessing they're 1.25" as well. So it looks like the Protege piece is not a good one to use, and I'm going to have to get a Kia part. (I don't want to mess with plugging the hole in my stock 1.6 outlet, with the accompanying loss of working space that comes along with.)

Gonna be a while before I can get to installing this as I'm leaving for NYC again in the morning. But so far, looking good.
