Default Johnny C from OG racing.. My build thread. LS1 miata..

I should start a build thread so i can have a place to post updates.
I built the car in originally 2010 and have been replacing every component twice ever since.

the original build.

I picked up a 1999 with 250kmiles. The guy I boutght it from said it has a blown motor, but I think it was just Miata tick. Ether way a good platform for a v8 build.
.

Trans is a Tremec t-56 for a Camaro and a sfi bell housing.

1997 corvette LS1

the fisrt seat i used was a FX1. i hated this seat. butt would go numb after an hour. it retuned to being a video game chair in 2012

the first dash. all autometer

huge mess. just start tearing everything out.

Got all that useless everything out of there.

Dif parts for the 8.8 are stupid cheap. this lsd was only 120 bucks.

I cheated and went the easy way out with a new harness.

the most tedious job in the world..

seem welding. the glue goes everywhere. i found the best way to get rid of it was with a propane torch. and a wire brush.

more of my fantastic welding.. i'm much better now.

good win 11: bbk. word of warning the porter-fields that come with this are not track ready... i burned them up instantly at autobahn raceway.

i went with stance at first.. you know a fantastic idea. :(

trusty 15x9 6ul

and the r1r's. still my favorite rain tire.

I took a brake from the build to go race my 1.6l, and won these guys. 2 races 2 first place victories, i couldn't be happier with the outcome. thanks to WCMC for putting on the event.

This car had 250,00 miles on it when i got it. and the floor pans look new.

more welding..

cover the welding

textured paint... the trick to painting un even surfaces.

tadaaaaaa!!!

some minor updates.

to fix the crash damage, we had to cut a little material off.

i took the front off of a 2002 miata and welded it on to this one.

came out looking alright.. good enough for a race car.

the bumper has seen better days..

i replaced these gauges with...

the holley touch screen.

you can play solitaire on the touch screen.

How bad were the Stance coils? Being from Chicago all my friends like supporting Touge Factory / Stance products. From what I've seen it looks like they have no travel but I'd like to know what you thought of them.

i know Dave and Nick at TG. i bought stance for the same reason, they where local and i knew them.
over all i was unhappy with the performance. out of the box the rear coils had >1/2" of suspension travel before i got coil bind. i upgraded to swift springs, then i had >1" of travel until the shock hit the bump stops. at my power level when i hit the power band the rear would squat, the suspension would bottom out, and i would lose all grip. very nerve racking @ 5000rpm in 4th gear (120mph) I also didn't like the damping adjustment. one click it would go from under danpin, to over danpined.

I now have the AFCO coils. They have fixed all the bottoming out issues i used to have with the stance. although i am not 100% happy with the danping they provide. they will be sent off for testing and a higher valving this year.

i hit a deer. the day after fixing the damage from the crash.

yes that's poop on the door

fixing things...

adding stiffness.... on a side note. i made my own door bars. they made the covers on my seats last for years!! i would rub the bars vs sitting on the edge of the seats.

Went to CMP and blew a drive shaft on the first 3 laps. i did put down a 1:44

I got a new bumper. decided that the neighborhood would kill me if i painted stuff int he garage.

wrapped the whole car.

cat approved

then the fans broke.. the sway bar was rubbing the fan shroud. locked the fan up, and it failed. i got a replacement at autozone for $50. these stupid things are cheap, and work fantastic!! i was so happy with it i went back and bought another one.

catching up to modern day.. 2013 ls fest

drag racing can terrify me. my 60 ft times show it.

A little out of place...

I won the auto cross and made it on to TV

Victory burnout.

Started working at OG Racing

swapped in a NA6 dash. saved quite a few lbs

got a new formula harness... this thing still rocks

The corbau was retired to video game chair duties. i picked up a Pro-adv seat. i still love this thing.

more axle problems.... after this i upgraded to the 800 hp drive shaft shop axles.

doing demos @ formula D

scale time

nose heavy my ***!!!

Went and raced Ultimate Street Car Asoch @ Daytona

and hit a cone at 110mph..

went to home depot racing...

and stitched it back together

new bumper time..

Built the sub frame over the weekend. I had to gut about 1.5" off my bumper to get it to clear. some slight trimming on the splitter will be needed. I don't Think the weight penalty will be too bad. So far it's sitting at only 15 lbs.

just some quick updates. I'm planning on pushing the engine back 2.5", build a roll cage, and upgrade to V8 roadsters 11.75" brakes on all 4 corners. tear down on the car has started.
