Default 01 BRG - My next 10 year build

Back again to deliver another dose of decade-long disappointment.

Since Irma took my beloved 90 away from me forever, I've gotten another car. I was contacted by Chilicharger665 (super cool dude, btw) about a semi-clean NB2 and a few weeks later he delivered the car to me from New Mexico for a price that was so good I thought it was a joke. How could I say no? The car is a 2001 SE. Dirty as **** with awful paint, but only 80k miles on delivery. Came with a bunch of upgraded goodies and is very mechanically sound.

The car came with the MiataRoadster tall/angle shifter, Delrin door bushings, rollbar, FM Vmaxx 2, FM sways and end links, Beat Rush bracing underneath, FM 2.5 turbo exhaust (loud as ****), 949 Supermiata Stage 1 brake kit, Singular brake ducts and some other things I'm probably missing.

All in all, I'm in love with the car. The NB2 is such a superior driving platform compared to the NA, and the VVT engine is very nice. Needs a lot of TLC in the cleaning department but the car is already looking better with each wash. Gotta say, I completely love the woodgrain steering wheel.

Plans are very simple. I've sent my MS3x from the NA back to Brain for a new harness so I can start running this thing on a standalone asap. From the NA I'm keeping my intercooler & piping (already been made NB compatible), my FM2 clutch, ID 1000s and a few other odds and ends. After the car is running on MS for a few months I'll be ordering a kit from MK Turbo. Bolt it on and call it a day. Nothing custom, nothing exotic or extravagant. I'm smashing the **** out of the easy button this time around. Suspension wise, I'm going to loosen the car up drastically. It's too tight and too harsh for a daily, IMHO. Gonna ditch the Singular brake ducts, too. I like the look of the factory fogs and I feel like the ducts will be going to waste on the car.

First thing I did when I got the car was go over the suspension. After a 2k mile drive, I figured there would be something loose. Turns nearly all the end links were broken and making some nice pops; we also found a missing sway bar bracket in the rear. Jacked the old poly brackets from the NA and fixed that quick. Next thing was get it off the ugly *** factory 16s and get my Kazera KZ-M wheels on it. Nice drop in height and looks much better against the green.

I've had the car for around a month and so far I've changed/done:
-Wheels.
-Fresh oil.
-Poly sway brackets.
-949 Endlinks (not installed yet, but here already).
-GarageStar cowl and radiator plates.
-Fixed interior trunk and gas popper.
-Replaced burnt out tail lights with 7443R LED units.
-Full detail but will need another 3 or 4 times to get everything.
-Amber lens covers for the factory fogs.
-Ditched the power antenna for a shorty rubber unit.

Needs a few more minor things to round it out, but overall I'm very excited to have another car and actually have the time to work on it and drive it. Besides the performance parts, I'm looking into some wider wheels for sure (just looks better on NBs) and throwing the Bose system in the trash. I've read into the Bose system and, my god, what a pain in the ******* ***. I could definitely use some insight and advice on that. I have a lot of reading to do about the NBs. Feels like an entirely different car, honestly.

I have no idea how to clean that, honestly. I found tons of dust behind the taillights when I replaced the bulbs. It's everywhere. Literally.

Changed to MK, lmao.

Got a mystery for you guys. When I received the car the driver's side window did not work. I've been hitting the switch every time I drive the car just to see, and sure enough, it worked today. Auto switch works, all the way down, all the way up. It's fast, too. No idea why it started working or why it stopped in the first place. Now I'm actually afraid to keep it down just in case it decides to stop again. Think it's the switch? Dust collecting in the contacts? I could use some ideas.

Lol it just started working again?? That damn window is possessed.

Josh is a super cool guy, I am glad I sold this car to him, and I enjoyed the drive down there. Between going to Miatas @ MRLS and driving this car to Josh, I have driven across the whole US this year. I feel accomplished.

Vlad, the FM exhaust on the car is the one I bought from you. My stock cat went out, so I ran it even though it was verrry loud without a turbo in front of it.

Usual Miata shitty ground gremlins? I think I have a NB switch around if you want it to switch.

The window shenanigans are almost certainly caused by the switch. Either corrosion or worn contacts,

For the bose system I would replace the speakers, replace the head unit, and bypass the amplifier.

whoa, so he has a part that was previously owned by me, so the car is that much faster

Yeah dude it's been working for two days now. But I'm being a little bitch about using it since I'm afraid it might stop working again.
Once again I can't thank you enough for the car. It's amazing.

I'll definitely take it.

Noted. I watched a video on bypassing the amp; what a pain in the ***.

That part is coming off and going in the trash immediately.

My two projects going on now are going to be
1) Get it running on MS3x.
2) Obtain new door panels. I am simply too big for the car right now. I'm at the peak of my off-season @ 250lbs with 30" legs. Making turns is legitimately difficult.

What kind of door panels do you want? LRB makes those flat aluminum ones.

I kept my Bose amp and speakers with a modern head unit, works fine for me.

I was looking at those. I have my NA uppers from the red car, too.

Got a write-up? I've read a lot of conflicting information and ideas regarding the bose system. Apparently it runs the speakers at .5ohm

I got everything from Crutchfield. The secret part was this interface:

I would get those LRB panels, spray the back with Lizardskin insulation or something like that and be done. Maybe paint the interior side or glue some tan leather on it so it matches.

I was in traffic today and someone told me my brake lights are out. My center light works, however. Just swapped out to my truck, but was seeing if anyone had any quick tips on what to check first.

Thanks for the diagram. I'll **** around with it tonight and see whats up.

Wideband of choice according to Brain -
Amazon Amazon

MS3x should be here tomorrow or the day after. Can't wait to start doing some street tuning again and dust these cobwebs off.

What are people using for gauge panels in the NBs? I kinda like this - https://trackdogracing.com/panel-NB.aspx

I use the Thompson one from Good-win Racing with mixed success. Sometimes it will go a whole track session and not have a problem, then sometimes it will fall out twice in one session, or just driving down the street. Experience has been mostly positive though.

I like that TDR panel. I had a 3-gauge panel that wasn't angled and it annoyed me.

I bought one like the tdr one for significantly less on eBay.
