Default my turbo (to4b then china gt35 then hx35) then ls1 97

bought my miata about a year and half ago. plan is to do a ls swap. in the mean time while i save for the v8 its getting a turbo.

info on the kit. i built it all my self in my garage. turbo is a garrett to4b off a john deere with a custom .48ar t3 exhaust housing, it cost me 50 bucks. stainless log manifold. cheap emusa 38mm wastegate. cheap emusa 50mm bov. 3" turbo back exhuast. evo injectors. ms3x already wired for the ls . 2.25" hot side piping. 2.5" cold side piping. biggest intercooler i could fit with ac. exedy clutch. and i already cut the frame rails and stuff for the v8...

setup is currently running 12psi

i will be getting my hx35 next week but in the mean time i went ahead and installed an ebay turbo i keep in my garage for mock up when building stuff. its a ching chong gt3582r

since the inlet on the 35r and the hx35 are both 4" im going to go ahead and install my z06 intake that i had for the future v8 swap and connect that to the turbo. havent seen it done so it should be fun

I have thought about this intake for quite a while and wondered why nobody has tried this.
I will be watching this very closely - though those intakes are not easily available here in Germany...

Thanks for the update - interested to see how you manage to connect the intake to the turbo.

BTW - do you happen to have a part.nr. for that intake?

no the intake was given to me. installed an aftermarket intake on a z06 and the guy didnt want the stock one.

i got most of the intake install done today. only a little clearance issue. i think the stock radiator is not going to work with the intake. it is touching the top of the radiator and hits the hood. since ive only ever seen it installed with the aluminum flat top v8 radiators im going to email flyin miata and see what they have to say.

the routing to the turbo will be easy. two 90's and some straight pipe.

Looks like a stock intake from a C5 Corvette to me. But I may be wrong.
In Germany the only way to obtain one may be to visit a certain area in Hamburg and steal it from one of the pimps' cars....

Really nice looking fab work on the hotparts.

Please do share your boost RPM when you get it, it's comical with the turbo that size lol!

Thanks!

I may not end up running it with the gt35 since the intake is hitting the hood and I'm getting the hx35 next week any way and I'm out of time to work on it this week. I will share the hx's boost time for sure though. My friend said he had 13psi by about 4k with his low comp 1.6 mr2. I figure 12 should be 3700 or 3500 on the bp

i managed to get the intake to fit under the hood with the stock radiator. cutting the upper core support and cutting the fan mounts off the top of the radiator made it fit just low enough.

made the intake out of aluminized and pie cuts bc its what i had laying around. the coupler is blue bc i had it in my attic and didnt have to buy it. i plan to get a black one soon enough

i welded some 8an fittings on the valve cover and drilled out all the passages in the cover to get the engine breathing a little better

until now i just had a small filter stuck on the iac. i got to thinking about it and wasnt confident that it would be holding boost back or becoming a boost leak at wot. so i redid that and now its pulling from the charge piping.

the hood pins are nice but man they are nerve wrecking to install lol

i have all the fittings and flanges ready to install the hx35 now i just have to find time since i have to cut the manifold, dp, and run the water lines

i have been running the cheap ebay journal bearing gt3582r knock off for a couple weeks. i actually surprised with the spool up and im no longer worried about the hx spooling to slow. the gt35 will hit 12psi by 3700 in 2nd but only at wot. the small turbo would spool at part throttle so thats disappointing. the gt will only spool if you push it hard. the small turbo was fun around town with out pushing but not the gt35. how ever merging onto the interstate the gt will absolutely fly. im hoping the hx will be in between

Volkswagen used to do a special edition model of the Polo in the 80s called Polo Harlekin

And this is a Harlekin - kind of a Venezian clown.
