It is not getting painted in pieces. I am not even painting the car myself anymore.

I am getting to the point that I am farming out much more of the work than I originally planned.

Packages are starting to roll in. In the last few days I received a few goodies, with more on the way.

My new passenger seat next to the driver seat I purchased months ago.


I went all out on the balancer from BHJ. It has a new 60-2 trigger wheel and a mandrel for a future evac system or cough cough dry sump.


I am taking a much needed short vacation, so I will not have any updates for a while.

I am going to try to make that happen sometime this Summer.

I am one part away from assembling my short-block. Sending the block out to have it align honed, and balance my rotating assembly.

Starting to pick up speed on this build.

Here is a terrible shot of what I am doing with the hood. Edges were welded, with strips of aluminum, and now I am in the process of smoothing it out.

The strip of aluminum you see did help strengthen the hood to tolerable levels. I will leave the strip as it is.

Well, the hood is now much lighter, and has retained enough stiffness to still use hinges. It is working out pretty good actually.

I am working out a deal with a new hot rod shop that has opened up not to far from here. However, there could be a slight delay.

A friend has swayed me to do some mock up assembly first. I have decided that it would be wise to work out the wiring and plumbing now. With the engine bay being altered, and the wiring being rerouted, I am concerned about scratching the paint during that operation.

After I know it all fits and how the wiring will run, I will take it all back apart and then send the chassis out bare.

perfect Idea. drilling holes after paint will leave you crying. The same hole before paint isn't going to phase you.

After all that hard work fabricating and meticulous bodywork, and I butcher the dash trying to get it to fit around the roll cage.

Oh the depression. I should have waited until morning to tackle a job like that. It is in, but I am not sure I can live with it.

Dude, no offense, I like your project. Have you weighed the "new" hood vs the old. Did you just spend 40hrs of labor to save 2lbs? Work smarter not harder. You could have taken that same 40hrs and dimple holed the entire car, and painted the entire car. You could have replaced the upper radiator support with aluminium and saved more with 4hrs tops of work/fab. IDK, seems crazy bra

None taken. This is an exercise of building the car I always wanted. It is not just about weight, but also aesthetics. One of which is to maintain as many stock appearing components as possible. I want to fool some people into thinking much of the car came that way.

I haven't had both in my hands but people who have say its noticeable..... im sure there are some numbers somewhere.

I think you need the dash, glove box, and cluster cover....maybe the tombstone too...
