It might be a better daily driver option, but usually by the time you get to 600hp in a 4 banger....That has long gone out the window.
Yeah we talked about the EFR 7163 quite a bit. Being an N/A guy myself, we picked the 3076R based on much discussion with our local tuner, who has tuned many, many turbo K series cars. He felt the 3076R would spool quickly like the EFR but carry peak power higher into the 600whp range on a stock block. The 3076R is rated for 750 hp, so it gives us some room to grow if we ever decide to build a forged K24 bottom end for the car.

Big milestone: prototype KMiata-specific turbo manifold, downpipe, and dump tube are all done. The full downpipe (not pictured) ends in the exact same location as our race header.

The K20Z1, GTX3076R, and all the custom bits are now in in hand. The car will remain N/A for just a bit until we finish a couple development projects on it, but we'll still be moving forward with piecing together the turbo setup.

We went with a V-band flange. Twin scroll should be doable. These manifolds will most likely be built-to-order, so although it's very, very early to say, I'd imagine we'll be able to make some accommodations for different options.

Also nice work on that manifold, you guys do that? If not, props to whoever did.

Thank you. We didn't do the manifold here, we have a guy for that

The same guy will be producing production manifolds for us once we're good and happy with this one, assuming there are enough crazy people who want them.

Are those runners long enough and flowy enough for a k20 head?

I'm a k20 turbo newb but I thought they didn't really benefited from long runner lengths on turbo manifolds, otherwise the manifold became a huge restriction which caused problems with having to run very little timing/cam advance?

Obviously, you guys know what you're doing, I'm just a little surprised by how short the runners are.

Looks nice and clean. What kind of paint/cleaning did you use on the block?

actually it's the other way around. in fact, most (all?) big snail setups love long tubey manifolds, the K is no exception.

The difference in HP would be more than covered by adding or subtracting a pound of boost.

I love how compact garrett turbos are compared to the EFR's.

The runner size and shape is due to packaging constraints. Remember, the K series leans to the passenger side of the car 13 degrees, and the downpipe has to cross back under the oil pan cutout like our header.

We've seen similar length runners make plenty of power on a k20. Our main concern is a quick spool and reliability. We didn't want long runners running alongside the engine. Just something clean, simple, and reliable. I think this fits the bill.

Regarding the clean block - this is a built K24 bottom end for the blue car, I just bolted the turbo up for pics. The machine shop soda blasted it and sprayed it with some engine paint when they did the bore and hone.

Hey everybody, quick update on this car. I need to post up a ton of pictures too. But the K20 is all prepped and bolted up in the car, it's mostly wired, and things are looking good. However, we realized a month ago that there was going to be little chance to bring it out to MRLS in October. So as soon as this car fires up in N/A form, we're going to put the new A/C setup on it, put some miles on the car, and then begin bolting up all the turbo bits.

We'll still have the NB at MRLS and also our NA WRL car, plus a small fleet of customer cars (including at least one K Exocet).

Here's the K20Z1 bolted in, mated to the BMW ZF 5 speed trans, Getrag diff, and almost all wired up. Since the car will run N/A at first, we're just using a spare street header in place of the fancy turbo manifold for now.

Will you be dyno'ing along the way? I.e. getting a baseline now and then again after you make whatever changes you're planning to (low boost/high boost/different maps/etc)?

Are you gonna ask for their spark map too. Pro-tip: it won't copy over.

Oh ****. Are you serious? I thought all 4 cylinder motors used the same spark map...
