car is dirty as ****.
engine bay needs lots of cleaning.
fat *** exhaust leak from where the 3" downpipe meets the stock exhaust (no gasket)
Didn't bother with a gasket cause I'll have a full 3" shortly
untouched base map running rich and all that jazz.

BUT

It fired right up.
It runs.
I limped it home from the shop.

I'm happy right now

Get some cruising videos. And by cruising, I mean 1-4th gear pulls!

So I've made progress, but not the kind I was hoping for. Instead of starting to tune the car, I had a bunch of **** that needed to be addressed first.

1) My whole injector harness bullshit. Thread can be found HERE

levnubhin was nice enough to sell me a harness and ship it quickly, so I received it friday. unfortunately it didn't work/fit on my car. So I cut off the plugs/pigtails and as much as I hate soldering, had to solder them onto my current harness.
Took my time with it and did a very thorough and clean job.

Looks like a champ now:
(next to the 94 hacked up wiring and my bullshit s5 old connectors)

Went to replace a leaking valve cover gasket, and decided to repaint the cover as well.
(sitting on top of the extra transmission I bought cause I'm sure I'll break my current one soon LOL)

Here's the unpleasant part:

Looking at the timing belt I noticed drops of oil all over it. I took off the covers and noticed splashes of oil all down the front of the engine as well as drops of coolant.

OH ****!!!

I freak out and take everything off the front suspecting either a cam seal leak or front crank seal leak. Well it was neither. It was the valve cover gasket (which was leaking on the sides as well, damn it) since both cam seals and crank seals were dry and nice (new too cause I just replaced em when I built the engine).

The coolant looks like was coming from the water pump.
Took that off, cleaned it, and called around for seals. No one carried them. Had to go to mazda:

******* ripoff at 26 bux for 2 gaskets but I need them and don't want to risk another leak.

So yeah. Minor set back, but I hope after I get everything back on by monday or tuesday that I can FINALLY start tuning this sombitch

Busted my *** all day after work, and here's what I have to show for it:

Everything is ready to start tomorrow. Few minor things like wga and bov vacuum lines are left to hook up, and car is DIRTY AS **** so a thorough cleaning is in order. Fully expecting to start and drive it tomorrow. Injectors in, wiring hooked up, seals/gaskets replaced.

And this time for good hopefully

Damn that looks nice and clean.

Why did you end up going with a cast manifold instead of that tubular one you sold?

Its going to be a daily driver. I want something atomic bomb proof.
Also I saw a discussion about tubulars in wich corky and stephanie both admitted that their s4 manifolds have about 40% chance of cracking after 2 years or something to that effect.

I know the nice ones made by Tim and Abe are super strong, unfortunately I can't wait that long or have that kinda cash to spend on a manifold right now.

I'll see what power level this setup puts me, if its over 300, even only a bit over, I think I'll be happy.

Then I'll go from there. If I'm going to upgrade, I'll upgrade both the intake mani and the exhaust mani and shoot for 400.

I like the valve cover. Do you think that small turbo will be enough? David

With the 1000s are you running E85? I know the engine is not tuned, but what level of HP do you expect?

Yes. And see post #49.
Anywhere over 300 will be fine to start off.
Will go up from there if I get bored.

Oh quit sandbagging. You should be able to scrape 400 with E85.

Today I finally fired up the car with the ID1000's and Walbro255 HP.

Its going to need a WHOLE lot of tuning. Very rough idle indeed, but nothing that can't be tuned out. Just have to take my time with the Adaptronic.

Washed the car a little bit, and decided to take some victory shots

Woo! Have you made any modifications to the fuel system other than the walboro? After you tune, I'm curious what your duty cycle on your id1000's will be with stock fpr pressure & the walboro.

nope, just the pump/injectors.
everyone I've talked to says it should be fine on stock pressure, but if need be I'll throw on an afpr to bump up the pressure a tad and help with better atomization.
duty cycles I'm curious about as well. I'm guessing in the 60-70's at 300whp on e85/stock pressure.

we shall see
