I have to take breaks otherwise the drill vibrates my hands to death.

This turned out really good

so clean, almost hate to put anything on top of it.

Huh...well...I still have the passenger front and rear fenders to do and I can't make myself pickup the drill again tonight. It'll have to wait till tomorrow. Thank god for a braided wire wheel I forgot I had, otherwise I would have tossed in the towel long a go.

Its coming off easy it is just the nooks and crannies that are hard to get to. Why you ask am I trying to get ever little bit of it instead of putting the truck bed liner over it?

7 lbs with three fenders to go is why.

How far should I paint it on is the question I have. I want to protect it but I probably don't need to go over board. Just put it on as much as OEM applied?

^ insomniac double post

Looks amazing man. I'd probably do 2 coats and call it on the undercarriage. No reason to go overboard and end up adding weight.

Why don't you just chrome plate everything while you're at it?

Chrome is heavy man!

I hate working in a dirty workspace too. I'll bet your actress girlfriend is messy, right? That's my situation -- I'm a neat freak and my wife's clothes and shoes stay wherever they drop (at least they drop ). Opposites attract. Coming up on 28 years.

I'd go back with OEM locations. I'm sure Mazda studied it. They also applied undercoating to a primed and painted surface. Better make sure bedliner doesn't need that first too.

I'm going to put some etching primer on just in case. It doesn't need it but it can't hurt.

and yes the girlfriend is messy, but I can ignore that since the clothes laying around may or may not be my fault at times.

Dude.

Love the TDI. That will likely be our next main car. LMK if you decide to sell it, I have family in Utah and would take the trip.

As for the Miata...

If I were in your shoes, I would go Mariner or BMW LS Blue. No question. White is tight but blue is true.

I should be banned for writing that.

Just read this thread from the beginning, great job and keep it up!!! This car is going to be awesome when it's finished, which shouldn't be too long from now based on the current pace.

Thanks and I'll let you know. Probably never since I plan on only selling it if it blows up on me.

I kind of want to do VW Blue too, looks really good.

Thanks and I hope so, I don't think I'm going that fast but by all your reactions I am going ludicrous speed.

Paint brush isn't working so hot so I am going to do the final coat with a roller. It takes 2 hours for this to cure fully before you can put an additional coat on top of it. Hard to get it in the crevices. Literally have to jam it in there.

Wrap it

Paint it

Oh no. VW blue looks good on the VW's but if you're going to do blue on the Miata the brighter blue is the way to go for sure IMO.

About the TDI, that figures. Biggest reason it's so hard to find good, clean low-mile used ones at reasonable prices.

No I think I will go with Audi TT grey, I just love how crisp it is. I don't think it will look good with bronze wheels though...

Second coat done with a roller...turned out perfect!

I have both rear fenders to go(stripping) and I can prep for painting the entire underside.

If I ever suggest such a insane project again slap me...

Due to the odd sense of obligation I have towards this cars integrity and quality, I decided not to say "**** it" as I ninja star threw my chisel into the garage door in frustration and painted over the undercoating.

100% undercoat free totaling 25 lbs. The entire gallon of truck bed liner only weighs 5 lbs and I doubt I'll use more than 3/4 of it. Unintentional win. I need to see if I can grind out some of the rust, if not I'll put some rust converter on it and call it a day. I'm painting tomorrow. I can't feel my arms anymore.

Also I think I have picked a color. Laguna Seca Blue. God it looks good.
