Who in the world built that POS manifold? They should be banned if a member here.

They welded in filler to make up for the warped flange.

Curlys stopped leaking when he got it properly machined iirc.

Make sure you ask to get it surfaced, not just sanded.

I originally DID ask for it to be machined, and NOT sanded, hence why I'm a little annoyed at the moment.(I just didn't know better a year ago)

Did it look like that BEFORE it went to the shop that was supposed to "fix it" or is that how they "fixed it" for you? I can't imagine Abe would let something like that out of his shop.

I am going to go with this not being Abe's doing.

I remember it being like that before I took it to the shop to be resurfaced.

I'm not looking to burn Abe at the proverbial stake, though, seeing as I have a new manifold an solution in the works, and I didn't spend money on the ARTech manifold either.

Just seems like someone somewhere did something, seeing as Abe probably would have started over with a new flange rather then doing filler?

Components with complex geometry subjected to repeated heat cycles are going to change shape and relieve themselves (LOL). Even with your new FAB9 manifold, you would be wise to pull it off after a few months of running to check for flatness and get it surfaced if needed.

I'm also gonna go with this not being Abe's work. He has a reputation and he knows we're a bunch of picky ********.

I'm going to wager that Dave had it "fixed" at some point.

I also had doubts about this being Abe's work, maybe his earlier work?

This is why we use a huge aluminum back purging plate to pull the heat out of the flange during production.

That keeps/helps it not warp during production, but doesn't change what hornetball said, to check for warping after repeated heat cycles. Though if I remember correctly you are using 1/2 inch flanges which also definitely helps.

Yeah, mine leaks horribly. It doesn't help that I've had it sanded multiple times and now it's pretty thin in the middle. But it's finally machined on both sides as well as the turbo with inconel studs. It's not coming apart any time soon.

$500 for this Miata...I think I'm getting badly influenced by Ed and his car buying spree to be considering this....
