95 M-Edition SR20 T25
 

Since I am bored, I figured I'd start my build thread now.

I now own a 1995 M-Edition sitting at a pretty 60,000 miles! This is currently my third miata.

The first one ended in a burning tragedy, literally lol

This winter in Chicago has been a huge pain in the rear. I have not driven it since it has a blown auto-trans.
Waiting on the weather so I can salvage what I need from the old miata. Going to be pulling both motors,
doing a full refresh on the one I am going to use. Timing belt, water pump, seals, o-rings, etc.
Hopefully it will be on the road within the next month.

The plans for my turbo build are as follows:

• SR20 T25 Rebuilt with kit from Gpopshop
• Greddy FV BOV
• FM DIY Kit
• FM Level 1 Clutch
• MS2
• Some E-bay IC kit

I am shooting for a goal of about 200-220whp. I have yet to decide which injectors I will be running, but of course, there is plenty of time for me to decide.

Going to be re-assembling the turbo tomorrow, I'll include pictures since I haven't got anything else better to do.

I've got Spring Break off work in a week, plenty of time for the miata then ;)

Firemen had to cut through it to make sure there was no fire under the hood.

Make sure you don't burn this one down. It's purrrdy. Seriously though, welcome to the forum. Don't do any shoddy wiring, be careful with your fuel lines, and make sure your turbo feed is tight.

Wasn't my fault the first time actually, I was a victim of some vandal who decided to torch it.

I will be extra careful though with all my lines and such, perhaps to a paranoid level

Alright, seems I have run into a bit of an issue with the turbo rebuild. My turbo now doesn't spin freely after I tighten the nut on the turbine shaft. I have torn it back down about ten times since them double-checking if I did everything right, and it is all right. I've tried looking it up and the only answers I seem to get are that I did something wrong. Any idea guys?

Are you following the torque specs for reassembly?

The thing is, as soon as that nut on the shaft is torque even the tiniest bit, they just refuse to spin.

There are minute differences between his T25 and mine, but there is something that I have noticed that could be my problem. On the turbine side bearing, I put that washer between the bearing and that funky circling clip. The way he shows it, it needs to be on the outside. I will tear it down (again) and see how it goes. Thanks a ton for showing me that Curly, I've looked at a ton of other guides and they did not show it this way.

That's the guide I followed, I've had a leak free and awesome spooling turbo ever since.

I've deemed the problem to be between the thrust bearing, thrust collar, and turbine shaft.

Now should the collar and compressor wheel grip the shaft really tight? Mine are able to slide on and off without much fuss.

That sounds normal from what I recall.

Did you order the right rebuild kit? When I did mine I sent gopopshop.com the serial number of my sr20 and they shipped me the correct kit.

My turbo no longer has the serial number on it, the tag is gone.

Pulled a few more things out my the bay this morning.

Got the PS pump and AC compressor out, thankfully there was no freon in it!

Going to take the bumper off to get the AC condenser out and I was thinking of getting a smaller washer tank perhaps.

I've got most everything disconnected already, just need to crawl under it and tear out all the auto trans junk piping and such.

It's finally getting warmer here in Chicago and I am itching to drive a miata again. Ugh :facepalm:

Pulled my motor last weekend by myself, managed to smash my toolbox, will be posting pictures soon.

Last weekend I got around to pulling the motor out of the burnt miata.

I've had it sitting on cinder blocks surrounded by grass so I had to lay down some plywood to put the hoist on.
One leg of the hoist managed to slip off the plywood and into the mud, hoist tips over, hoist smashed my tool box. :crx:

This morning I had to haul the motor back into the garage, but since it's all damn grass, I had to throw it on this, and drag that back

Sold the spare diff to a friend, and this just seemed to be the easiest way to get the PPF off the diff. Forgot to bring a chisel, so instead of pulling the sleeve out, I wedged it back and forth until it came out

And this is why we replace seals, it poured out so much in the matter of about 30 seconds

That's not necessarily the seal, its probably pouring out of the flywheel bolt holes.
