99 MK turbo gamma test
Hi y'all. I got my turbo goods from Lars the other day (exciting).
I've had megasquirt running in the car since June sometime & installed a flyin miata clutch sometime in november. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e72f0943f3.jpgDirty and faceless. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...7277f3f0e6.jpgJam that guy up in there. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...42120c0dac.jpgthrow some pipes on there. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...a87744769d.jpgThis BOV will hopefully not leak. (Fingers crossed) https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4664b3752a.jpgmore U's! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...b08d2216d0.jpgIt is maybe not the best weather for this. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...95df03a1e0.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e1dd18ee48.jpgLooking handsome. So -- mostly everything is in now (The MK turbo kit is very nice & easy to install alone). I'll be drilling/tapping the oil pan tomorrow sometime and the last couple of intercooler couplers will show up eventually. While I wait for my 2 remaining silicone elbows I'll wire up my EBC solenoid. I can't actually get the miata over the snow in the driveway so it'll be stuck here until a big thaw. |
Nice looking car!
My only suggestion would be an IAT sensor in the cold end tank or cold exit U of the intercooler. Can't wait until the thaw to see what this thing does. |
Very cool.
So when is someone doing the MK Turbo Omega test? |
I had the same thought. Although there might almost be enough kits out there to run through the entire alphabet now. |
Moving quickly.

yeah, that's a bad location for the AIT, slap-dap behind a heat exchanger, and right next to a large iron block emanating heat.

Makes sense though

I'm trying to wire up my EBC solenoid, and I read that a 12V switched source was available "near the headlights on a blue plug (??)" is this connector the one in question (blue wire with yellow stripe)? am I crazy? |
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...1757d1e894.jpgTrepanning complete -- managed to catch basically all the shavings with goo.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...91ecc8516c.jpgFitting in place. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...720c73f5e1.jpgOil drain line seemed a bit long. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...48441dab3a.jpgDrain line is connected now with a bit of a jog towards the nose. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...09dacc6aaa.jpgEBC solenoid wired up and mounted. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...551abd8554.jpgWaiting on some couplers to finish the hot-side charge piping. |
Finished the intercooler piping a week or so ago - need to do a boost leak test soon though.
I had issues originally when I first started it up after turbo installation with lots of oil smoke and oil in the compressor housing, found to be an issue with the drain line kinking/not draining properly. I have on it right now some worm-drive-clamped silicone hose (boo) while I wait for a AN fitting to fix the braided line - proper length drain line fixed the drainage problem, no more oil smoke! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...3f9e104b5c.jpg135 degree coupler - charge piping still all 2.5" https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...3afaa0fbe4.jpgFinal piece - a BIG U I also managed to get the car out of my snowy driveway and do some driving around! Compressor surge was definitely happening, which means I need to make the BOV work (or buy a better one). The roads were shitty and I was on crappy tires so I couldn't get much into boost without losing traction, but the drive went well. It worked! As the weather gets better I will find some better roads to fully test (& tune) this thing. Thanks again to Lars for all the help and for offering this great kit :likecat: |
