have you looked in to a tubing notcher or a bandsaw or chop saw ? we bought a delta bandsaw from ace hardware on sale for 150 like 7 years ago works great although ive had to build jigs to cut some angles..

either way props! im sure youve learned alot by taking on this project.

A tubing notcher would be amazing. We used a chop saw for some of the straight cuts. A carbide not die grinder helped a lot too.

Seems like the wastegate is set at about 10 psi. Though I have read it is a 12psi waste gate. Maybe boost leak? EBC should be hooked up in the next couple days along with VSS. Grabbed a 3rd gear pull and its looking pretty good I think.

aidandj 12-24-2014 03:29 AM

Also switched in the new BOV and couldn't get it to work. I think I just fail at adjusting them. Also my cheap amazon air filter fell of so that needs to be fixed too. Otherwise everything seems to be running well. 1st is useless in the rain above 3000 rpm. And I got 2nd to break loose in a straight line once or twice too.

aidandj 12-24-2014 03:30 AM

Also my welded wastegate mount broke already. So I threw together a bracket out of some angle aluminum.

Did a little heat shielding, and wired up EBC.

It isn't plumbed yet because I need new fittings for the solenoid. The ones provided are too small for the vacuum tubing I use. I'm going to go grab some 1/8th npt to 5/16th hose barb tomorrow when the stores open up. Wastegate was hitting about 10psi but with quite a bit of preload. I'm going to back off the preload a little bit and stick with 10psi for now.

Virtual Dyno says 204hp and like 178ft/lbs of torque but it was with a 3rd gear pull and the weight isn't exact so it doesn't really mean anything.

I would like to get on the dyno before I go back to school. But I would need to have EBC setup and ready to go. Maybe I will come back for a weekend in the next month and try and get some dyno time. Curly is English racing open on weekends?

No they are not, and you will need to call ahead and schedule time pretty far in advance just to be safe.

Thanks. I probably won't have a weekday back in town until spring. Oh well. I'll stay on the base timing map and keep the boost down.

aidandj 12-25-2014 10:42 PM

Question about BOVs. I put on a Greddy BOV I bought from a member on here that seems to be authentic. I hooked it up and tried my hand at adjusting it. I loosened it as much as I thought I could without it backing out and I still got compressor surge. Forgive my noobness but I should be able to test this by just opening the throttle with my hand and revving it up then snapping it closed. With the Greddy hooked up I get the cho cho cho coming from the compressor. But when I hook up the integrated CBV thats on my turbo I get a nice pshhh. Do I need to adjust the Greddy more or is my testing wrong?

Dipstick popped out on me today and sprinkled some oil around

Going to search locally for a check valve or buy one online.

Some logs playing with EBC. I haven't had a good long period of time to sit down and really learn it so I have been making small changes to see what affects what.

None of these are anywhere near tuned (and some of them are downright ugly) but any advice is awesome.

Also if anybody has noticed but my tps is going crazy. It shoots up over 100% then back down below 100. And at idle it is constantly moving. Hoping to find a replacement, or a good one to test with. Anybody local have the BMW tps?

curly 12-26-2014 10:37 PM

I do. Also reads sporadically. My only guess is that brand new oem tps units are totally worth the $140.

Well I finally got around to rewiring the tps so it at least reads in the right direction. That made it play a little nicer, but still lots of jitter. Did some ADC stuff in school last term and focused heavily on noise reduction so going to look into that and see if I can apply anything.

In other news, planning on a trip to seattle this weekend, and taking the Miata, hopefully it stays in one piece.

Curly shoot me a pm if you are free on Sunday and could give my tune/setup a once over before I head out. I could use a set of experienced eyes to see if I missed anything obvious.

I aslo tried to fix the dipstick popping up:

Its an O'Reilly replacement 323GTX valve. We will see how it works.

Wow great progress bud. I really enjoyed reading everything so far. Can't wait to see more.

Thanks Scotty!

I'm still suprised I got the turbo in when I did. Looking back on the manifold build process I thought a week was enough time but really it wasn't. I got really lucky on a couple things (oil line, intercooler stuff) and had some good help along the way.

I should probably start a list of mistakes if I want to be true to the title.

1. 1.6

2. Not buying a car with a hardtop

3. Not using a standard T3 turbo

4. Not building a Log Manifold

5. Using 1.25 pipe.

6. RX8 injectors instead of GT500

Feel free to add whatever other stuff I messed up

Curly is there a reason I can't edit my original post and add that list to it?
