I would say your manifold is almost easier to build. Fewer small fitments. Also you didn't backpurge did you?

I build my log manifolds in batches of 5-10. It speeds up the process a good bit.

This showed up in the mail the other day. This was right after passing them. They made glorious noises.

right, no back purge, I also wont make that mistake again. I have another advantage now. I can print out the unfolded version of each part, tape it to the bend, and use it as a template to plasma cut it.

Went off to my engine builder today. Talked specs. Going with the following.

.004 piston to wall clearance.
Wrist Pin clearances
Rod - .0008
Piston - .00095
No squirters. Got my ferrari bolts for that.

IIRC isn't @soviet running .004 on Wisecos? I'm sure he has some commentary.

Yes. He has a video of his piston slap in his thread. Goes away when warm.

Water pump shopping.

Looks like I need the following.

Gates cast impeller pump: Gates 42134
Gates timing belt Gates T179RB
Gates idler pulley Gates T42005
Gates tensioner pulley Gates T41031

Snagged them all on rockauto. Still just accumulating parts. Cant do any real work until hailey leaves for nursing school.

What I'd have gone with is non-applicable to you (I think) since all my builds revolve around e85.

But I'd have chosen a softer, 4032 forging (supertech, like 4 billion other miata owners) and a little tighter, because .04 on the 2618 sounds like a tractor when warming up, and might have quite a bit of blow by.

But I'm not judging. becauseracecar

This motor will see e85 for some dyno queen time. But it is a pump gas build.

Got a good deal on the wisecos.

Dug through a lot of the older track threads. And .004 is the go to safe piston to wall clearance.

I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I guess It's better to err on the loose side knowing this thing is going to live a very hard life on track.

That's the thought process. It isn't always easy to get it perfect. And looser is better for almost everything. Theoretically makes more power too? But probably negligible.

The cost of a rebuild because siezed piston is astronomical compared to the cost of a rebuild because I've got a bit too much blowby.

I also have a big crankcase vent. And a big valve cover breather. So dealing with blowby hopefully won't be an issue.

my two supertech motors were quiet when cold, my current motor with weisco pistons does sound like it has a bunch of nuts rolling around in the engine when cold, i put a 4k rev linit until it gets to 140 deg to keep it from scoring the cylinders

My wisecos are silent on cold start, and I posted a video of it here before after it was requested for proof. Mine are a 3.5 thous, FM wiseco's.

Edit: This vid, it was around 40-45F at startup:

interesting. I'm pretty confident about the .004 piston to wall. A bit of tractor noise doesn't hurt me.
