I would build it overkill to prevent a fuel leak, fuel leak is something I never ever ever want to happen. Three 1/8" aluminum tab in single shear is not overkill enough for me to feel comfortable running that on my car.

Regarding you mentioning another part hitting his fuel rail, I would want my fuel rail beefy enough that if the motor hit it, it would dent the rail or bend the tab, but not crack it. Obviously I won't want anything hitting it in the first place but you get the idea.

Oh I agree. Was just rereading that thread and realized it. I have some thick aluminum at home I'll take a second shot with.

Wonder how the plasma cutter will handle 5/16th aluminum....

Ya, just look at how strong mazda makes the rail and the mounting for it.
Many other companies, like Subaru, even cover the rail in some insanely thick steel plates, so that you'd have to break the engine in half before you could ever damage the rails or bend/break them in any way.

It's just one of those things that "I can't bend it with my hands" is nowhere near good enough. If it ever leaks, you're gonna have a real bad time.

Ours is surrounded by an intake manifold. So that covers quite a few cases. I'll see what thicker tabs look like. Might resort to bolting them on.

1. buy 1" box aluminum at metal store or Home Depot Motorsports
2. Cut in half, then grind into appropriate shape
3. Weld
4. Please the internet gods

Hmmm. Not seeing it. Space is very tight there. Valve cover runs into everything. I'm just going to try thicker tabs. I have more scrap sheets at home from work.

FWIW, I had the same aux fuel rail setup as Abe in the original incarnation of the FM2 on my car and the photos are deceiving, the rail doesn't come anywhere near the shock tower brace. This was a vibration/fatigue failure, not an impact one. Obviously the magnitude of the vibrations won't be as large when it's mounted on the head rather than out on the end of the intake manifold, but paranoia is justified here, IMHO. Notice that all of the aftermarket fuel rails around are CNC aluminum with the mounting tabs being big, thick parts of the base material.

2 tabs done. Getting there. I'm stupid and forgot that id1000s are taller than stock injectors. So I need some spacers.

Hmmm.
How much are the nice CNC'd ones?
Is this going to be e85 friendly?
How come no one makes them from mild steel?

Uh oh, I have become question boy wait til you see my next thread post.

CNC ones are cheap. from my research this will be fine for e85. Especially how often I will run it. (almost never)

Thanks! All my questions answered, except why no one does mild steel like the factory one.

The mild steel is coated, and requires lots of custom bits. CNC aluminum is as easy as sticking a block of aluminum on a CNC mill and waiting. A mild steel one would require some sort of production line. Which works great at OEM levels of production, but not at aftermarket fuel rail levels.

My guess at least.
