Whenever the motor comes back. They got bearings on tuesday. I'm hoping to get it back early this week. Take a few sick days and have it running this coming weekend. All very optimistic though.

Kinda of. I've been waiting so long for the motor I wont get excited till I have it back. And I still need to assemble the whole short/long block.

Thats a given. If the stars align I'll be on track on the 14th. Thats a huge stretch though.

Home track, PIR.

Would just be a Track Night In America. But its like $75 and should be a decent shake down.

Its 2 drag races with a few turns in the middle. But I know it well, and can feel the car out.

Dont you have to brake-in the motor for like 3k miles before going hard? Or am I just retarded?

3k is overkill. I'll probably try and put 500 miles or so of no/low boost driving on it. And then 1k before synthetic. I can do 500 miles in a few days before work just on backroads up here if I have to.

Ya, I rack up a crazy amount of miles whenever I go out on a drive on backroads. I don't feel like I'm driving as much as I am, probably because I'm having fun. Definitely better than highway driving.

You don't want highway driving during break in. You want continuously varying rpms.

I know. I just put the highway part in as a comparison of fun. It was dumb. Just pretend I never said it.

Bah. My break-in procedure

1) start engine, check for leaks, drive long enough to get oil warm.
2) Do the "rev it up w/o boost, then coast down in vacuum" thing that FM recommends. Drive 50 miles.
3) Change oil
4) Drive to work once or twice
5) Hit the dyno, make 300+ at the wheels.
6) Take it to Laguna Seca.

Don't you normally use "heavier oil" during break-in/bedding-in?

No way would I be doing 300hp runs with that in the engine.

50 miles doesn't seem enough - I was advised 500-1,000km as being "about right", with the upper range being preferable.

When I had my engine built, I was warned of this, and to ensure that the rev-range was excercised up to 4,000rpm but no more.
