I had a good oil pump leak when i first rebuilt my engine, no where near as neat as this. Just a field refresh but my oil pump when, I had sealed it with just rtv and it leaked. When I put on my new pump I used an OEM mazda gasket and I have had zero issues with oil leaks.

There's no gasket mentioned in the FSM. Maybe you were working with a short nose 1.6?

1.6 uses a gasket, 1.8 uses RTV. Aidan's procedure is basically exactly what I do.

Only thing I see missing from the pics you took of the install is the magic hondabod or fujibond that makes everything always seal.

1.8, used gasket, zero leaks
don't know what reason it's not recommended but it works, also a few of my friends have been experiencing bad leaks from be pumps

its not recommended cause mbsp creates a step that a gasket wouldn't seal

and aidan, to me that pic looks really dirty. so I'm betting on dirty/contaminated surfaces is why it didn't seal

It's just discolored. I scrubbed with brake cleaner untill the rag came off clean.

Front main was definitely leaking. And a tiny weep from the exhaust cam seal. Replaced both. Hopefully the front main is what was causing all the leaks.

Boundary seal was totally different than OEM. Much harder, less elastic, less spring tension. Felt like crap compared to OEM.

About halfway done reassembling. Should be driving tonight and will know if that was my only leak.

The only part that I thought of, is in his pic with RTV on the pump, where the RTV stops at the top on each side, I went across and put a bead there too. Not sure if required, but I put RTV there too. In general if I'm not 100% sure, I put RTV since I hate having leaks.

Put another 20 miles on it. No leaks yet. Burping coolant then will probably go put another 40 on it. Then hopefully boost tomorrow.

You have so much more restraint than I do. Hopefully no more leaks! I'm hoping for the same thing tomorrow haha

Motor has 250 miles on it now. It stopped leaking from where it used to be leaking, so if its actually not leaking anymore I'll be stoked. Haven't gotten under the car to check everywhere yet.

Boost tomorrow. Probably going to start with the 3psi spring and just start tuning my way up.

Nice work. You plan on having a professional tuner look at it or will you be doing all your own tuning?

ya, you have a lot of self control. At 15 miles , a half *** tune, and 15psi, I felt the need to autocross my car.

I'll be running the laptop the whole time. But the dyno owner is helpful and answers questions.

My front main crank also leaked with BE pump, but I also had rear cam driver side and both front cam seals leaking.

All fixed now, not a drip.

Best of luck with your tuning!
