this is a very key point to me because it creates a potential restriction, especially under side loading under turns. Remount the drain as high as possible.

If you guys want to draw up a basic 2d flange and tell me a quantity I can get an estimate.
That said, a -12an fitting will almost never fit on the turbo without being a 10an first. I have an EFR that I made a 10an fitting for and its really close to the bolt heads.

I just used some .75" tubing. Worked ok. Used socket head screws.
I have some other options for shipping stuff out, but it always ends up taking forever and being more effort that its worth. Would prefer local.

As devil advocate and local miataturbo noob with an EFR, I get no smoke, hard acceleration or under the same conditions as you. 4an feed (drilled out fitting as it was 2mm too small), one of those flat two bolt flanges for a drain (from fullrace), measured to same to actual inner diameter, 10an sized, 10an line, 45* from drain to pan, and a 10an->3/8" NPT bung, also drilled out slightly.
Am I cool yet? The line is vertical and then 45* and the bung is slightly tipped up (And cockeyed but we won't talk about that) like 10*

Got a sweet banner yesterday
Also borrowed a turbosmart oil pressure regulator. Rumor is that this was developed because of oil control issues people were having specific to EFRs.

So one theory is that oil comes off the bearings foamy and aerated. And a long drain line allows for more drainage and room for the oil to return to liquid form.
Also, there is a good chance that not all seals are created equal. There are a variety of tolerances at play (sealing bore, ring gap, etc) that could cause differences between turbos.

yes. see ninja edit. miataman00 and spendington and quite a few others are not reporting this issue

Artech top mount. Turbo is offset wayyy further forward than normal so my oil drain is actually in front of the manifold. The line is probably 12-14", possibly edging towards 16" with all the fittings.

Its a sealing system, not just a seal.
I think i'm going to test this oil pressure regulator before I drill out the pan. Because drilling out the pan has a real possibility of me needing to pull the motor to fix whatever I **** up. Where the oil pressure regulator can be installed no problem.
As another data point, my oil drain line is about 8-9" long and I am having a ton of oil coming out of the intake side instead of the exhaust side.
Interested to see how this regulator works for you. Still wondering why simply using a restrictor would not work if it is indeed caused by too much oil pressure. Would be cheaper and less complicated.
