Another Silly LS Swap
I'm slowly piecing together an LS swap. After scouring the forums/craigslist, I took a 3hr roadtrip to Kansas and took ownership of an LS6 for a deal. It's missing a few things that I need to pick up, but only has 28k on the clock. I'm still learning quite a bit about what all is needed to make everything work correctly, so it will probably be a while before everything is in and running.

Damn you people with space, time and money!
Keep us updated. Nothing better than an LS Miata. |
I'm so hard right now

In for the build!

Always good to see another V8 build!

Is it bad that I'm already thinking about saving for the next 5 years so that about the time that I'm getting a little weary of my NA and one of you guys decides to sell his LS NA or NB, I'll be ready?

Major in.
Most of the LS swaps I see are complete engines. While obviously this is the easiest way to do it, it's also the most expensive. Building one up by sourcing parts will be a big help in knowing which parts we need/want, since GM made a lot of different bits and pieces for the LS. Looks like you've got the long block, intake manifold, and TB... is that all so far? |
In there like swimwear!

turbo miatas are becoming so passe. It brings a trear to my eye. One day we need to rendezvous at Hallett.

Don't get too giddy just yet. Like I mentioned this is probably going to be take a while to source everything/have enough money to buy said sourced parts. But I'm hoping to offset the cost of everything by selling my drivetrain when I get to the point of putting the big guy in there.
Honestly I got really lucky finding this motor for the price I did. The motor is mostly complete, just missing some odds and ends (sensors, clutch, flywheel, few fasteners, different TB, etc.) It's also going to be getting a new cam/springs/pushrods. Still trying to decide what I want to put in it. Hoping to lay down 425ish. Hustler- Ya we really do. To be honest I haven't been in quite some time. I will be up in the city at a PCA autox on Sunday though. There more cost effective IMO. Thanks for the support guys, I'm sure I'll need it as this continues. Michael |
In for the build. That is cool you are starting with an LS6. I just have a puny little LS1.

Well not much has changed since the last time. I picked up a stock fuel rail, ECU, and a throttle body. I'm also supposed to be getting a wiring harness, another ECU, valve covers, all the sensors, and a T-56 in a week or so. He is a guy out of Houston named Mario who may be a really good source for LS1/T-56 combos. He has a hobby of buying F-body's at auctions and gutting them and selling the drivetrain. Real good prices! If anyone is interested let me know and I will def forward you his information.
I'll post of some pics of the throttle body. I've been porting it and getting it prettied up so I can paint it along with the intake and valve covers over the holidays. Michael |
bring it to festival of speed and I'll have to buy a gtc-300 and splitter to maintain my dominance.
