best post of the day goes to evo doing donuts

Are the Evo's really as fragile as people say they are? I've been wanting a VII/VIII for a while now up until the point that I heard someone say "You can't beat on an evo like you can an STI". I always thought evo's were a little more robust then subaru, especially in the engine department. Care to elaborate?

I would take anything with a 4G63 over an EJ 10/10 times.

I daily a Subaru, my friends all have modified LGT's and WRX's but they are not running much more than stock power, just basic bolt ons. We have had the worst luck with these motors and we don't drive these cars hard, just everyday. On the flip side, almost all the EVOs you see around here are pushing much higher horsepower numbers and simply WORKING. Like I posted before, my buddy had some on ramp fun with an EVO 10 that resulted in an unfortunate rod through the block, but that's the first major problem I've seen first hand with a modified EVO. Also was a 4B11T not a 4G.

People will argue back and forth on this all day, but that's my .02

evo's have really good/strong engines
sti's have really good/strong transmissions
each has a strength and a weakness
pick your poison

And as Miata owners I think we can all appreciate an inline four...

The horizontally opposed life has not treated me well. #salt :burncash:

This is exactly my understanding as well.

That being said, there are plenty of people running big power on the stock drivetrain. As far as I know, at elevated power levels, your stock transfer case will fail at some point. Launching from a dead stop will obviously kill your drivetrain very easily and quickly.

WELCOME TO TRE WE SPECIALIZE IN MANUAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR
They do good rebuilds, of course there is always EVO 4-9 | Sheptrans who build an "indestructible" transfer case and transmission. As far as I know, after building your drivetrain you're good to go for a very long, long time. Keep in mind, these options are what people go for when they are making triple, quadruple the stock power and torque levels.

I've grenaded evo 9 tcases at 400 before. This happened durind a pull while tuning, which surprised me. Yeah its a constant toss up I would say up to about 500ish, and then the evo seems to edge out the sti

So the tcase failed just while doing a pull out of no where? What kind of torque were you making? Were you doing pull after pull? Maybe getting the components too hot?

18psi 02-17-2017 06:35 PM

this was years ago so I don't remember too many details, but yeah: pull/log, revise, reflash, pull/log, etc. Probably 6-10 pulls before it started making a very nasty noise.
It was right around 400whp iirc, so upper 300's torque. It was probably abused before, I don't know, but I never expected it to go during a smooth pull.

I'm still here and alive folks. Car is too.

Enjoy

I love subaru's, but I honestly think that evo's look way better. So unless you're going to be able to find a stock hawkeye/blobeye sti or something... I probably wouldn't get a newer WRX. They just don't really do it for me.

I love bugeyes, but finding one that isn't total shit in wrx form is next to impossible. I missed one last year and I was despondent lol.

Anyone want to buy my Evo? Lol. Completely serious.

Well, I feel like I never went in depth enough with the car. It still hasn't sold, but still on the market. If anyone wants it, $20k Miataturbo member special.

But anyways, I just wanted to share this image album. It's just about all the photos I have of the car, compiled into one album, and captioned by myself.

I feel like it pretty much summarizes what could have been a long build thread.

I hope you guys enjoy the album, it took a long ass time to make, but now I've got something to send back to potential buyers.

ENJOY  (CLICK ME)
