1.9ConeKiller and I swapped in a 3.6 ring and pinion. Well, if I'm honest, he did it. I, like, held stuff when asked.

Next up I'll throw the diff back in the car, put the gasket on the exhaust manifold, finish cleaning the oil out of the exhaust, and I should be back on the road!

Posting this here because a) I'm stoked about it and b) a set of these will eventually end up in my car.

This is a prototype Flow Force 960. Sonofthehill is going to test out a set and if I can get my car running reasonably well I'll run a set too. All the Flow Force goodness, with ID1050ish flow rates for 20% less money.

Ok, ok, I am going to Napa for super long vacuum line in a little while. Nice job, do you think I can use my MT pink top adapters?

You can use your OG limited-edition pink tops with these, for glory.

is that an ev1 connector?

Good eyes, it is indeed! It's a bit of a frankenjector. It uses an EV14 valve in a short body with a long nose and an EV1 connector. It's an OEM injector for a Peugeot V6 engine.

Well, well, well. True PNP. Should be able to mount without the rail isolation spacers.

Conical spray pattern?

My FF are working great, by the way.

Single cone spray pattern, and these ones don't need the fuel rail spacers

Got the car back on the road yesterday. It pretty heavily smoked for a while even though I thoroughly cleaned all the exhaust pieces. I checked everything to make sure it wasn't something serious, and then after 45 minutes or so it was smoke-free.

The new 3.6 is running great. It feels like what a turbo 6 speed should feel like. I still have the 3.9 sender in the transmission, but it's surprisingly close to accurate. 60mph on my speedo is 62 on GPS. My tire size adds 3% and the 3.6 should add 7%, so presumably it would be 66 on GPS. I have a 3.6 sender to put in.

I tried to add a little more polish to the hole in my hood. I think it came out alright!

Even though I started another thread about my engine swap, which is sadly delayed, I'm going to continue to post here. And in the spirit of this hack job build, I bent my steering pinion when welding it. Too much heat, too big a bead. Good thing I bought a low miles rack and pinion to depower, so I've got the pinion in my car still that I'll use. Next time I'll just do 4 spot welds and let it cool in between.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...5d94e2736c.jpgSo overkill I killed it
I'm also recognizing the need for a different seatbelt clip. I'm using the NA6 receiver, but it's too long and puts the buckle in position to do some kidney damage in a serious crash. The NB receiver is way too short and I can't reach it beside the Kirkey seats. I need something in between that matches up.

Emilio has a shop hooked up to do the pinning process for $40. IIRC, the consensus is that it's safer than welding

nigelt 06-27-2018 02:24 PM

I thought I was being so damn clever and could ply my newfound welding prowess (or lack thereof) to do it myself. As it turns out, rather than saving $50, I ruined a pinion that I only seem to be able to replace by buying a complete assembly for $100.

cmcgregor 06-27-2018 03:26 PM

I just bought a set of belts from seatbeltplanet.com and had them web the receivers like 4" shorter, because I had the same problem.
I wouldn't buy another set from them because their anchors aren't drilled for the right size bolt, so I had to grind them out, but I'm sure any of the places online that reweb belts could do it.

This happened. Explains the increase in volume coming from the exhaust.

I patched it up with some mediocre Tig welding.

Only needs to last a few months
