We have one. I thought I knew where it was, but it is missing. So crimped and soldered instead.

I used to solder everything. Found out it makes **** break when vibrations happen. Crimps let the wires move a bit and relieves stress.

I figure if NASA specs a properly done solder joint, it is good enough for my car. Been doing it for car audio for 8 years and never had a connection go bad.

Every joint at the ECU is soldered into a cup with no way to crimp it, and those hold up just fine.

ECU vibrates a lot less than an engine.

I had a solder fail on me on the spark harness. broke right where the solder stopped.

Nasa would also reject that pin pictured, nm the fact that they specify "wicked length", etc.

Cool, bring me a proper crimper by today (the only day I have time to do this) and I will do it now. otherwise, I will deal with it later.

Fair, the pin may not be spec, but it won't break. Done plenty of connector pins like this before when I didn't have the proper tool. They hold just fine.

Love having a butane iron. Makes working on the car a lot easier.

Finally made some nice wires for the new battery I got the other week as well.

Took the car out for a drive and did some tuning. Everything is running much better. Still some slight signs of non-linearity in overrun and light, low rpm cruse. but I really don't care too much about that part of the map. In light, low rpm cruse, it bobbles between 15afr and 16afr. Which is close enough and should be fine with some EGO.

Idle is fine up to about 14.5afr. More than that, it gets a bit stumbly, so I will probably stick to 14-14.3 or so and call it good. Need to work on tuning the injector timing map in cruse next. But this was the last thing that needed to be done on the car before working on getting the super charger in. I will start that process after the next track day on the 25th.

Figured out why it was still idling like batch fire. I flipped one of the connectors I had made and got the injectors wired in the wrong order. Woops. Quick fix and it is idling nicely at stoich or leaner. Runs nice, I like these injectors now that they can be run at a reasonable pulse width.

I picked up a 2ftx3ft sheet of aluminum to make a cowl plate and anything else I need in the future. Need to start working on getting coolant temps down on track (they are fine driving). This is what I get for wanting to keep my AC.

Speaking of cooling, I am starting to look at radiators. Is there any reason not to just go baller status and buy the TSE one? Can I do 200-220hp (when I eventually go turbo) on track with AC still installed and a lesser radiator? Or will I have cooling issues? I feel a really good radiator is something worth dropping coin on.

Anyway, the main part of the post now. Track day is on Thursday, I have been tuning fuel and getting things mostly sorted, it is running well. I just want to make sure I am not being too aggressive with my timing or target AFRs. It seems to be running well and I don't hear any knock. When this car was stock it happily ran at 22* base timing on 87. (mark had shifted, didn't know until I replaced the pulley).

Anyway, how do these tables look? I am still NA, so ignore all the things above 100kpa.

Tin snips, nibblers, and a file made short work of it all.

Can't really tell from the last pic. Did you end up painting it?

That actually looks like a very easy and fun DIY project. What material did you use originally to create your guide?

Could have sworn I posted a finished picture last night. Guess not!

That was primer. It received a coat of sattin back (and apparently a hair or two, woops) after.

Fairly easy project, took a few hours and had to move the holes from the template I made. Template was just some poster board we had around. Final one was some aluminum sheet from lowes. I want to say 0.02" thick? It was fairly thin, but once bolted in it is mote than fine. I was a bit worried at first.

Also added weather stripping to the back edge kf it.

Track night #3 at Pocono was a success. Car is running and driving well with no major issues. The new radiator pannel and running both fans kept temps between 200-205 most of the time, with one or two short spikes up to 208. Much improved over last time.

I mostly had empty track all three sessions. There were a hair over 20 cars in novice sharing a 2.5 mile track.

The big supprise was I actually would slowly creep up to and away from the 1.8 miata that was there. He was running stock engine and such with 225 RS3 and a hard top with ohlins. I had my 205s on and top down, duno what what all means, but I am pleased to see I have gained a bit of power.

The tune needs some work. Idle and low speed drivability goes to **** when everything is heat soaked.

Also, I made a huge mistake durring the first session out by commenting, out loud, to myself just how well everything was working and running. Next thing I know I get a loud scratching rattling sound like a bearing went bad or something. Turns out the alternator loosened up and the belt flipped over. Couldn't get the PS pump to move because thebpivot bolt wouldn't loosen, so Injust cut that belt to fix the alternator one and ran the last two sessions with no power steering. Oh well.

Next few days will be spent shining the car up and getting it ready for my trip out to Ohio. When a girl asks you to bring the nice sexy car along when you vist, you shine it up and do so!

Video from the track night at Pocono. I bumped up the bit rate a bit, this one took overnight to upload since it was almost 1GB. Deal with it.

The session seems a little short since I was giving a complete first time person a tour. He had no idea what an apex or a line was even. Not that I am any good, but I went slow and let him follow me for two laps (those are not in the video, the wave at the start is letting him know I am heading off). We just made sure to follow at the back of the pack so we weren't holding anyone up. This also meant I had toooons of open space when I went off. It was nice to have the track mostly to myself.

Now, my line. It's ****, I can see it in the video. Need to work on that. I know I wasn't looking far enough ahead (I should know better from autocross). But I was spending most of my concentration attempting to remember to keep an eye out behind me and watching the flagging stations. Lap times were similar to last time I went, with clean laps varying between 2:05 and 2:07. You can see me slowly reeling in an NA8 starting around 7:30 in the video though. It was fun to have someone to chase that didn't just disappear down the straits.

You might wanna hold the steering wheel at 3 and 9 when cornering. If the car bites you have less control that way.
