Man, your tune is so much different than mine.

At the advice of running less timing in boost I did steal your ignition table. Had to adjust fueling but the car seems happier. I'm not sure why my ignition table is so aggressive, that's the one that came with the car and since I'm running e85 now I just assumed it would be ok.

Yeah that’s a what I’ve come up with from adapting the base map for my ms3 plus reading some forum posts and stuff. Should be pretty safe I’ve been running my stock internals bp4w on for awhile. Almost certainly now optimal but should be safe. My VE table is going to be quite different from yours because our cars (all NB’s) are fixed fuel pressure, but I found a setting that allows you to compensate for that in the tune which allows me to have a pretty flat VE table like it would be if you had a rising rate fuel pressure regulator like NA’s have. Also I have ID1050’s so the injector setting will be quite different from yours.

p.s. Please don’t blame me if you hurt your engine with the spark map, you shouldn’t but I’m not claiming it’s perfect! If yours was significantly more advanced than that in boost, you most likely would have hurt this motor in boost anyways if you were on 93.

Cracked 1k yesterday. Other than the throwout bearing getting louder and that small oil leak I still haven't found, everything is good. Been working with Shane at AIM Tuning and not only has he got the car running 1000% better, he's been really transparent and explained everything along the way. I haven't had the best experiences with tuning cars in the past, on the dyno or virtually, but Shane has been awesome. Highly recommend him.

Starting to look at suspension now. The car rides like a brick and Oklahoma isn't known to have the best roads. Does anyone run Silver Neo Max coilovers? Or can anyone recommend something in that price range ($1200ish) for road use?

Tecnas is the answer you’re going to get. The silver neo max coil overs are made in Taiwan, most likely if they’re not new, they’re blown. If they’re adjustable, try softening them up or going harder, but otherwise look at the Tecnas.

Tecnas from Taiwan are ok but not Silvers. Got it lol

Thanks for the input I did a quick search on the tecnas and everyone seems to love them. That's what I'll get.

1200 miles on and first real issue. I noticed this when I put it all together but didn't really know how to fix it. The header touches the lower radiator hose and it appears to have either melted through or weakened it enough to cause a leak. Just pulled into my work parking lot and saw what I thought was smoke. Popped the hood and immediately smelled coolant. Could see a stream coming from this area of the hose and hear it sizzling on the header. Is there a solution to this, maybe an aftermarket hose or something?

Solution is a better manifold, if you really don’t want to do that, it’s either modifying the current, or flipping the mixing manifold around. This required welding the small barb and heater hose line shut, among other little issues.

I wouldn't be opposed to to changing the entire turbo setup. Once this turbo fails which will probably be sooner than later. I found a hose HERE that would probably help, but for now I think I have another hose at home.

I have to say, I have MeisterR ZetaCRDs on mine that are that are around $1200, and the new version that he replaced that model with is cheaper, and they ride very nice I have zero complaints, that is once they are dialed in correctly of course.

boosted_na_2025 May 29, 2025 06:44 PM

Hose at home is bulging in the same place as the one that's leaking. Not wasting my time with it. Ordered a Gates hose that will be here tomorrow.

boosted_na_2025 May 29, 2025 07:08 PM

Just ordered MeisterR Sport-Z Plus Coilovers for Mazda MX5 Miata (NA / NB) 89-05 I read a ton of reviews and liked the price. Thanks for the suggestion @Riley8425

Put a couple more layers of air between the hose and manifold, maybe. That could really be a mess if it failed catastrophically.

SimBa May 30, 2025 03:59 PM

I'm curious to hear what you think of the MeisterR setup, I don't think too many people on here are running those (or maybe I'm not paying attention). Seems to be more popular in Europe than the states. I considered them when I was shopping for shocks as well.

Yea I saw your comment on a thread here. Based on my uses they seemed to make more sense than the tecnas. Tecnas are obviously going to be better, but I haven't seen one person say the Sport Z suck. Besides that, anything is better than what I'm running now. I think it has racelands and I wouldn't be surprised if every shock is blown. Literally rides like a brick.

Tuning is going really well. She's getting pretty close. Still working on starts and the idle dip when stopping but definitely night and day difference from where it started. Settled on 12psi, leaves me some headroom and hopefully helps with longevity.

The new radiator hose came in and of course it was the wrong one. They ordered another one that'll be here in the morning. I have a feeling they're going to send the same wrong hose. We'll see.

I'm not really sure what to do. Curly probably gave the best advice, get a better manifold lol. Which I will probably do eventually. In the mean time I don't think the header and hose touching actually caused the failure. It failed about 3-4 inches from there and the other hose I had at home is bulging in the same spot. Seems like a common fail point on them.

Did you end up getting tecnas?

SimBa May 30, 2025 08:16 PM

I did. I went with the Tecna Sports, which are the same spring rates as those MeisterR's. I'd like to see what the regular (touring?) springs feel like. I don't feel like I need all the stiffness that the sport springs offer, but I'm also not very experience with different suspension setups, so I don't really have any point of reference.

I moved over to the Tecna's from old Koni's with super soft springs. Just having intact bump stops was a big upgrade for me.

Today confirmed what my wife has been telling me for the last 9 years. I am an idiot. Lol. Let me tell you about it. So I get the correct lower radiator hose today. Run some errands with my wife. Come home, mow the lawn, do some landscaping. It's hot here today so I'm already feeling exhausted from the heat. Can't handle it like I use to. I jack the car up, get the old hose out of the rats nest, it's soggy and clearly being soaked by a leak. My guess was power steering fluid, but we'll get to that in a minute. So I attempted to put the new one in and didn't like how crowded around that manifold was so just kind of started gently(lol) moving things around. Unhooked intercooler piping and just tried to clean it up a bit. I get that done, get the radiator hose on and start the car to go for a short drive just to warm the car up a bit as it sat for 2 days. When I got back I pulled into the driveway and popped the hood and immediately saw oil just pouring from somewhere. Killed the car and started poking around and realized the oil return line had come out of the fitting on the turbo side. My heart sank. After a few minutes I checked the oil and it wasn't reading on the dipstick. Sick feeling intensifies. . I had suspected the line was where my leak was and bought a kit to make a new one just hadn't gotten around to it. So I made a new one, this one a little longer to get it out of the mess. Getting the old one off was a pia but once I got some things out of the way I got it right off. New one went right in. Poured a quart of oil in, still not showing on the dipstick. Poured another and it's just hitting the tip. So I lost almost 3 quarts of oil in a 5 minute drive all because I didn't even check my work. Trust but verify, not today.

Good news is I don't think I hurt it, the coolant leak is fixed, and I found that small oil leak I'd been chasing. Bad news is I had to cut the power steering belt off because trying to loosen it to take it off bent the adjuster bolt because I didn't loosen the bottom bolt. So I have no power steering right now.

All because I was rushing because I was hot.

Moral of the story, my wife has been right all along 😆

4.1 Torsen acquired. Coilovers will be here Wednesday. Gonna be busy next weekend.

Scary stuff with the oil issue but glad to hear no damage was made. Great progress otherwise! I'm glad the tune is improving and you've been able to put miles on the car.

I don't have any input between the MeisterRs vs Tecnas. All I can say is I've ridden in cars with Tecnas and they are great for a street biased setup. I too considered the MeisterRs back when I was shopping for shocks, but ended springing for Xidas instead and was the best choice for my use case.
