2002 has 10:1 CR?

I think there's a good reason y8s keeps his boost below 10psi

But, in serious, there was no gasket on the DP on purpose.

Ahh this would explain how I misplaced it... Well it didn't hurt and it actually sealed

You may think the det-can location on the top of the head is fine, but if you move it to the block you'll hear less valve noise. I had a set-up like that for a while, you'll probably be much happier with it on the block.

Good luck with 10:1 compression, but still a great car. Does it weigh 2500lb yet?

I've seen a few Miata blocks take 350whp for years just fine, even crewed for a 400+whp Miata that never killed the block. It's your tune or the stock rods...probably the rods.

I'm sure he was well over 250rwtq.

Yeah I guess when I said block.. I meant stock bottom end. So yes, rods were likely my failure because I don't think there are many people making much more power than me reliably with the stock bottom end.

I'm having custom pistons made and I'm aiming for low 9:1 with a relatively light weight setup.

My car weight is probably pretty decent, 15 pound seats, 13 pound wheels, spare + tools removed, lighter battery, soft top removed (hard top added but similar weights). Cooling system actually weighs less, and I've recently lost about 18 lbs myself

The roll bar, turbo, DP and exhaust are the only real weight adders. Significant but must haves.

Why do you ask?

Really nice car. I really dig painting mine white as well. Although yours needs a Megasquirt.

Your sig: Plug and Play Megasquirt ECUs for ANY 90-05 Miata

Your car is a sexy bitch. Completely reminds me of my white sexy bitch.
Love the progress and what you've done with it. Good work.
Reading through the thread I was going to suggest you get rid of that POS afm and gayxede. Looks like you read my mind and will be doing just that soon.

Both the MS and Adaptronic are great and will work better than the xede imo.
Good luck

y8s has one for sale too if you PM him. he was just too lazy to ever put it online...was on his '01. But he's running MS3x now, and no it wasn't on accident.

Sucks about the block vents, threads like this always scare me. Definitely post some more pics once you get it pulled apart. Can't wait to see her come back even stronger.

I really appreciate this comment. I try to keep the car to my standards but my idea of "sexy" is obviously skewed because it's my car.

Looking hard, making it fast and keeping it clean is rarely done at one time during most builds.

Even if it was the most mathematically ideal perect AFR you could ever come up with 275rwhp on a 10:1 CR motor with stock rods is asking too much out of it. Those rods start to deform in the 250rwtq area, and that's about where he was at.

Hmm, some basic instructions in this build thread for those of us that are experienced, but then I noticed the lack of newbs asking stupid questions. Nice explanations.

Sorry about the vented block, what are the plans, have the back up engine already? You certainly move fast- built, upgraded, tranny replaced, more upgrades, cleaning, painting...all on one day!

Nice build thread. While you have the motor out, pick up a bigger turbo

A bigger turbo? Mmm maybe not so much

Carnage update:

YEP that's a broken rod... and someone who's had these motors apart tell me if that is a valve hanging or an oil tube? And in pic one.. NOTICE MY FLUCKING ALTERNATOR, it can be seen right through the motor..
