This is the rear lower outer control arm to upright bolt, shaped like an "S".

Fresh Gen2 Xidas going in, 1000/500 like before, with gen2 Supermiata billet coaxial mounts in orange!

Delrin offset front lower bushings for the forward, camber, position.

Disregard the Ohio-condition control arms. ;)

Bump travel rubbing issues expected to get remedied?
When my NA got hit hard from the side, that long rear upright bolt got bent causing alignment issues. Definitely a good idea to keep a few good ones of those around, considering that shape is from hard driving alone
Nice build thread (:

Not in this case. Engine is detuned to make power cap anyway. VICS makes a bit more down low which extends the plateau in a useful fashion.

I thought that might be the case...there's got to be something useful to use that last point on?

Not really an issue with either offset bushings or extended ball joints. You run enough spring rate for the tire and it only touches occasionally.

We're pretty familiar with both the the rules and the platform and no one here could think of anything worthwhile. Beyond that, we're pressed for time. The MRLS event was a last minute jam to get ready after Taxi's engine failure during shakedown then several niggling issues with Deviate.
Then Dan broke his collar bone so John has had to do most of the prep. They are just now ready to fire the engine for the first time, I'll street tune it tonight on the cul-de-sac. Sonny and Dan will drive to BRP tonight and shakedown tomorrow. So anything that will potentially complicate things is being left out. Just get it reliable, make the power cap and go race.

edit: I just heard it fire up. Sounds healthy.

I never said it was an "issue". ;)
That minuscule amount of polishing on the shock mount is the last 1% of bumpstop compression at 1.6g or after hopping a curb and going airborne. The rubbing through of the fender liners is simple self-clearancing.

The two most obvious ones; Intake manifold and weight reduction, are both counter productive to the build plan.
An intake manifold makes it more peaky, which is bad against a power cap.
Weight reduction acts towards my P:W ratio further reducing my power cap. Raw power at the same P:W is preferable in my current situation since I have plenty of tire and brake.

The next option is a rear bumper cut, but a couple heavily data oriented people have recently proved that the rear bumper isn't actually the parachute we think it is. Plus I want the bumper support and foam piece to stay for bump draft protection.

So i'll run at 18 of 19 points. :(

Hell yeah @ the pipe-dream! I think we've discussed this route a time or two..... "it'd be really cool if I could go this route, but then the rules will change like next year!"

I see your bump-travel pic and raise you "springs too soft" ......

This was from running 700/400 for too many events in TTE(R7s@2410lbs). If, for whatever reason, someone asks "why should I run 800/500 on my track car?" Just show them my picture here

Good luck at BW man! Though, I know you'll do great, especially since you've got a support team backing ya up.

Quick question, you mentioned that the NB was heads and shoulders above your NA that you had prepped with all of the bolt ons (all of them), including the NB front subframe. I take it that the comparison was NA w/ rollbar to NB w/ rollbar and the NB1 was just as fast on street tires due to the increased chassis rigidity, right?

I'm only asking because I assume that a caged NA with the NB subframe should be within spitting distance of a caged NB1.

Sort of.
I actually said the NB was within a couple seconds, meaning it was slower.

My NA had years of prep, setup, etc, and I hopped in a 2600lb NB on KYbs and lowering springs and went nearly as fast. I saw the potential.

A couple bits of prep for NASA West Coast Championships:

We did a quick test day on the Rival-S left over from MRLS(dead) with Speed Ventures so I could do a few laps before showing up blind to the big show.

Car ran well, driver didn't hit anything. Mild success.
Driver needs to nut up in a couple spots and then we should be in the ballpark. I'll be the only non-local I think.

BIG drop in IATs was worth a bunch of midrange power.

The conversion to the points build meant I needed to add ~90lbs of ballast. That meant mix and matching my old plates with some of 949's ginormo plates. Placement is NOT ideal, do not take build advice from this photo:

18 points.

Sonny and Dan rolled out on my 42' rig a few hours ago. Stop by the 949 Racing - Supermiata trailer if you are going to be at NASA West Coast Champs this weekend. Barring any unforseen problems, I think Dan has a good shot at the win on Sunday. Everyone here has busted ass for the last two weeks getting everything built, shaken down, tuned, prepped and loaded. Go get em!

Sonny and Dan did the Buttonwillow test day yesterday. No issues. Today is the first day of qualifying races. Another qual race tomorrow then Championship race Sunday

Charlie Hayes (PTD) looks super fast in warmup, only .8s off PTB fast lap by Dave Schotz. No one in D is within 6s of him.
Dan and Justin Ross are trading fast lap in warmup (E). That's probably gonna be a dog fight.

emilio700 10-14-2016 06:35 PM

Dan dropped a wheel in qual but sill managed P2 for todays qual race that is starting right now. Looks to be a close fight with So Cal local Justin Ross in the green #147 NA.
Justin qual result was tossed when he was underweight so he's starting at the back.

Looking like a good fight between Dan and Justin! (assuming I correctly identified Justin's car)

emilio700 10-14-2016 07:13 PM

Justin got to Dans bumper and they ran nose to tail for 8 laps. Fun to watch the battle on the live feed. Around lap 8 Justin Ross went off while battling with Dan and finished 2 laps down. Looking good for Sunday

Does anyone know anything about the purple PTB Miata driven by Austin Newmark? It's fast.

What would you like to know?

He's also one of those drivers that was a child prodigy kart racer as well I believe, he is fast as hell regardless of what he's driving.

emilio700 10-14-2016 11:16 PM

Everything, pics. Although it's a bit of thread drift. Maybe new thread.
