The seat is ready for lay up now. All filled and sanded. This is a pic of the initial shape profiled out. Looks much better now. Holes are drilled for mounting too. At this stage it weighed about 1.9 kg's. I had a quick check before it's the carbon fibre goes on. And it weighs about 2.5kg now. So finished it will be about 5.0kg.. Could make it lighter if I did it from a mould, but then you need to mount it with heavier brackets. This is the same shape as the inside of the car, so just bolts thru. I am sitting as far back and low as possible. Also as close to the centre as possible.

How much for the trunk? I don't need it functional.

Trunk is $500 au with 2 coats of clear to protect it. Shipping would be cheapish you would think. It's not an overly large part. You could get a quote by measuring your trunk and my post code is 3204. Can drop it off to a depot. I have a spare trunk already made. Melbourne Australia.

Have you thought about a group USA purchase?

I have done import/export to/from Australia in the past, getting a 20' shipping container or LCL (Less than Container Load) is relatively simple, and with the number of pieces that could be put into a container would not be exorbitant for the shipping per unit (i.e. under $4000 for Melbourne to Los Angeles or Spokane for the whole container)

Something to think about, perhaps?

Maybe next year when the fastback is ready I could do a group buy. Might even fly over as well. I could fit a shitload into a 20' container. Probably the part load is best. Must be cheaper sending containers back, since most would go back empty? Especially to China.

I have NB doors ~2.0kg's, hood ~3.0kg's, hardtop ~2.5kg's bare, or ~6kg's assembled with rubbers, window, etc. Fastback around the same weight. Trunk ~1.5kg's

Are you clear coating any CF? Or is your resin UV resistant?

Also it appears you are doing everything with a single-sided mold, are you not using a double sided mold for bracing? Are the parts stiff enough?... Just adding more layers?

I've been dabbling in VIM for awhile... Haven't made anything for Miata yet though, only some RX-7 stuff.

I was thinking about making something for Miata but might not need to anymore...

I do clear coat parts for a bit extra. The carbon fibre will dull after time without it.
I use the front section of the hardtops inner frame. And use rivnuts to mount the hardtop brackets.
On the trunk I use a core cell frame with one layer of c.f over it.
Most parts are an inner layer of c.f, and an outer layer of c.f with a Soric core. I do laminate extra layers where needed. Like the rear section of the hardtop. As the polycarbonate rear window has to be bent to fit. So is acting like a spring.
The hood has the Oem rear frame section, so it can be bolted on like Oem, with the rest of the frame a custom made core cell frame.
