Is the stock motor dead?

This is 100% a toy for kaisersoze, not me. We'll see what I think of the K-series power band, but this is much different than going from a 300hp turbo BP to a 150 VVT just for a little reliability and weight savings. I'm both saving weight and adding 120hp/90ftlbs.

I really enjoy my DD NB, I haven't updated it's "build" thread in a long time, but it now has poly diff mounts and MC engine mounts. Great little commuter, but even my 1.6 turbo is an absolute riot with it's "measly" 172ftlbs of torque. If anything I plan on grabbing one of a few NA1.8 engines available to me and slapping my T25 with a new manifold on it. After building it with rods of course.

Nope. This merlot had a NA 1.9 with toda cams and pistons(?), adjustable cam gears, Mazdaspeed ITBs, blah, blah. GreddyGalant knows more about it than I do.

It currently has a lower mileage stock NA 1.8 with new coil packs, plug wires, stock clutch and a few other bits I'm forgetting about. Basically brand new Tein Basics, FM frame rail and butterfly brace, straight shot clutch line...I'm sure I'm forgetting a thing or two. Oh upgraded stereo.

Owner of the shop is actually a little sad that we'd be taking out such a nice 1.8, but we're putting in a even better 2.4 :O

Small update time! Motor mounts arrived. Not the prettiest thing, although fabrication and powdercoating quality is great. Very well wrapped as well, no damage here!

Not sure which one goes where, I'll figure that out when an engine arrives.

Oh! And the rest of the kit should have shipped this week, so I'll have up-close pictures of the flywheel and adapter plate asap.

Josh, are you using a K24A2? If so, you were mistakenly sent the wrong mount driver side mount… Robert was using a K24A1 which uses a different style mount, but looks like the packing slip got goofed up with the transition.

You have my apologies, we will ship out one out to you ASAP today, along with a return label.

Bonus is that the K24A2 is much prettier looking due to the locations of the bolt holes :)

K24 ? K20?
K and f seres are one of my favorite Engines for a Miata but it's nearly immpossible to get it street legal in Germany

Honda motors.

turbofan 01-16-2015 01:51 PM

Have you acquired a motor yet? I didn't think you guys had one yet.

I got to see kmvguy's parts that are ready to go into his car. What a beautiful engine setup.

I known that these Engines are Honda Motors :D
I think a f20 ,k20 or k24 is a ideal Motor for the Miata especially for a track car or something like this
I really like N/A Engines like these Honda Motors because most of the time i'm driving in the Hills
We got some really nice "Touge Tracks" in Germany and Europe
The only reason i don't drive a Honda as a DD is they're "fail wheel drive " and a s2k is to expensive compared to a Miata

Thanks David, never would of known!

We're using a K24 for sure, Eric, the sponsor of the build, said he's got a lead on a 100k K24 for $1200, let me find out if it's a A1 or A2 before you ship anything out.

More parts!!

Received the (hopefully) correct A2 engine mount, and the behemath of a flywheel today.

Attachment 184466

Flywheel is seriously gorgeous. Perfectly packaged too.

Engine side

Pressure plate side. Notice the included throwout bearing, nice!

Attachment 184467

Thick! Still only 13.5lbs.

Attachment 184468

Finally, the pressure plate bolts. Nice touch, but a little boring compared to the giant CNC flywheel.

In for cool stuff and things.

I did get the rest of the kit today. Lots of cool parts!

As usual, very well packaged.

Lots and lots and lots of packing...

First item opened up was the oil pump adapter, beautiful piece.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422156308

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422156308

Next was a bag of hardware. Very exciting!

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422156308

Then came the wiring harness. Very pretty, I recognized zero plugs. Maybe a OBDII plug somewhere in there? Maybe one Mazda plug?

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422156308

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...psvppbrwza.jpg

And the oil pan! Also gorgeous. It has two drain plugs, a hinged baffle, and I'm guessing that channel is for the steering rack.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422156308

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422156308

And finally the piece that makes this kit so miata friendly.

I love it.

I kinda really want to do this.

Really excited to see this progress. Now buy a car already.

I have a smurf...you should buy it :)

Mobius 01-25-2015 12:41 AM

Do it Ed! Dual simultaneous builds!

turbofan 01-25-2015 01:09 AM

LOL the car I looked at last night would have been a pretty good candidate. But alas, it is not to be. Not yet, anyway.

Who knows. Might decide my turbo kit won't hatch and sell it. That'd fund most of the kit cost....

NO. Will enjoy watching from the sidelines. But buy a car already.

EO2K 02-27-2015 03:22 PM

This thread needs more updates. You are worse than I am, sitting on all these baller parts. :brain:

curly 02-27-2015 03:52 PM

Don't blame me! The entire swap is sitting comfortably in one of our spare bedrooms, even after ~$3000, it's a lot of money for the miata, engine, fuel pump, NB steering rack, header, kpro, exhaust, etc, etc.

Soon!

turbofan 02-27-2015 04:06 PM

I will have a spare NB steering rack, as well as subframes. I also have a spare Walbro 255 (the one that came out of my car but is likely just fine since swapping it out made zero difference on my issues).
