Deacons $500 barn find build.

Story on acquiring my 95 Miata goes as such...
Back in August of 2013 my girlfriend decided it would be a good idea if we moved to her home town of Ely, Nevada. I being the pussy whipped gent I was decided sure, why the hell not? What have I got to lose right? Big mistake, or was it? Anyway I applied for a job out here at a Caterpillar Parts Sales Position and got it(her dad is my boss so it was a given id get the job). Anyway this is boring so on to how I found my Miata. Me and my Girlfriend were driving around looking for property to buy/build a home on and spotted the familiar shape of a Miata out of the corner of my eye. I immediately stopped my truck and went to the guys door and offered him some cash for it that he kindly declined. See, he had big plans for the car. It was destine to race in a local race called the "silver state classic challenge"; a race consisting of many different speed classes, the coarse is 90 miles or so and there is no speed limit... Well after 2 months of not hearing from him he called me and said he would take my offer on the car as he was moving to Reno and could not take it with him. This is my first Miata but not my first race/performance car. Anyway that is the story of how I paid $500 bucks for a running, driving, fully caged Miata...

Now, on to the fun stuff like horrible cellphone quality pictures till I get my computer set up at home...

I hope the manifold is of better quality than the downpipe appears to be. They're not Ebay Specials are they?

The diff is a common problem, especially in rear ends. There's a break away notch that snaps the arm instead of damaging other vital drivetrain parts. If you look around you'll probably find signs of a rear end accident. Or it's from another car.

>Manifold looks like JayL's old unit or similar design
>1.6 16g ebay downpipe

To be honest this is a package deal and I would change a few things as far as exhaust, and what not.

Nothing "proper" about photos with big, pointless signatures.

thirdgen 02-10-2014 12:24 AM

If having the signature on the photos and calling them "proper" is being just comical, then yeah...it's worth a chuckle. Otherwise, not sure if serious.

beats the instagram stuff he was posting.

Wait is that the engine after you are done working on it? Hopefully that is a shot taken before you take it apart. Besides the oil pan still being dirty as crap, you do not have an oil drain fitting attached yet. Please pull the oil pan and drill the hole off the car.

Fireindc 02-11-2014 09:42 AM

lol, I like this guy. Good luck to your build, and I really hope you arent using ebay hotside parts - it's well documented how those fail within a few miles on installation.

hornetball 02-11-2014 09:56 AM

Big props for scoring a beautifully caged car for $500.

But . . . it deserves better. Well documented here what holds up on track in the long run. It costs a little bit more than what you're doing, but it's a lot cheaper than doing it twice or giving up, parting out and ending up with nothing. I'll bet you can sell that "package deal" for a profit too. And the wheels too. There are a bunch of decent, light 15x9 options that have just come out. You'll go much faster with those than 16x8's.

I'll butt out now. Love the cage though.

Might as well draw some sharpie dicks on it
