Any idea what other Chinese turbo's would be similar quality to the one Begi uses that could be bought cheaper elsewhere? I'm thinking Begi manifold, then Chinese turbo and chinese down pipe (since then their weird patterns might match each other! lol)

No the general consensus HERE is buy quality **** and do it right the first time... you could go on club ricer and get **** parts that will crack in a week or two... have at it.

The general consensus is that 99% of the miata community is broke young kids, pathetic rednecks/hacks in their midlife, or senile wine-n-cheese old farts. In all those cases these cars get the worst possible treatment.

1) stupid rtard kids hack them up, rice them out, bolt up a bunch of crap to em and basically ruin the car altogether. "hellaflush" "stance" and "drift" is their operative language. the end result is failure and disgrace.
2) rednecks ghetto rig a bunch of junk onto the cars that is just as bad, if not worse than what the young rtard kids do. the end result is failure and humiliation.
3) the old farts don't care about going fast or looking nice, they get their kicks out of wood trim, gay looking chrome wheels, or polished style bars that compliment their chrome air vent rings and get together to go wine and cheese tasting every week.

That is what the majority is.

Then there is the 1%. The enthusiasts that cringe when they see any of the above. Guess which group the regulars of this site are striving to be?

If you are patient and want to save money you can buy a used quality kit from the classifieds on the cheap. They go up regularly. You could also piece something together. Do not use ebay hotside parts. They will fail and you will have a bad time. The turbos are the only passable items.

Hahahahahah, that is so true. The attitude of this forum is so bad its hilarious (not trying to be a dick or sarcastic - it really is funny!).

I just have a tough time spending an easy $2k on a basic turbo kit (that isn't even installed yet) when I could buy another cool car for that money. Or I could just sell my Miata, put the $2k with it, and have almost enough cash for a e39 M5.... You know what I mean?

I was just looking for a fun simple(ish) project.

^ Yeah, I guess thats what I'll do at this point, keep my eye out for a decent used kit. Only thing that also sucks is I'm in Upstate NY so our window of summer-car-fun is very short... so it sucks having to wait to find used gear. Oh well.

If you have a hard time embracing modifications costing more than the car, you shouldn't ever mod cheap cars.

Heck, you shouldn't ever mod ANY car at all ever, because with that logic you can just put the mod money towards a better car, which will stand true for literally every car in the world.

These things are not investments. They are money pits. Its called a HOBBY for a reason.
