Well my first turbo setup was a complete DIY with a HKS cast iron manifold and a 300ZX T25 turbo. Divorced gas downpipe, 2.5" charge pipes, etc. Well, it made a bunch of power down low, but not much up top. My insurance expired in August so I parked the car in my garage and started ordering parts. I still can't afford to insure it, so motivation has been lacking a bit to get it done. Plus my new motorbike has been taking up a crap load of time. Here's what the car has in it now (total):

Interior - The stereo died in my normal family car (4 door 96 integra), so I quickly ripped the Blaupunkt out of the miata. Poor car.



I'm waiting for one part and that is an oil feed restrictor. I also need to get a vacuum line reducer to hook up my wastegate. The wastegate the OBX came with is of unknown pressure, so I retrofitted a wastegate from a miata greddy kit I had lying around. At least I know it will never go over 8psi

I'll post dyno sheets and impressions once it's running. Should be in a couple of weeks or so. I'll also post pictures of massive motor destruction if that also occurs.

The gold thing inline on the upper rad hose: what is it?

Hoping my garage doesn't fall over ftw That gold thing is used to install aftermarket coolant sensors. I put the stock coolant sensor that was on the front of my 1.6 motor in it.

I had to drill and tap mine to accommodate the larger sensor, but it worked fine. There's also a bolt on it so you can ground the piece to the chassis.

You used it for your fan switch sender, I assume? It's straight threaded, I think, definitely larger than 1/8" NPT. Was there a good bit of meat on there to thread? I'm looking at tapping something like 3/8" NPT. Thanks a lot for the info, timely for me.

I finally got my oil restrictor, so I installed that, disconnected the oil feed, and then cranked the car with my ignition unplugged. Took quite a while for oil to get circulating through the engine again, but eventually it started spraying like mad from the -4 line. I hooked it back up, reconnected the ignition, and the damn car fired up right away (was sitting for 5 months). No leaks, just a bunch of smoke from a motor that's been sitting too long. Now I need to get some insurance and re-tune the thing.

Looks like April 25th will be the day I get the car out. It's the first day of drag racing down here so I'll pick up a day pass, tune it in the morning, and drag it in the evening.

Got insurance today and after about 5 minutes of driving the turbo ate itself. Became completely unbalanced, moves from side to side and makes horrible noise. So yah, it's dead. Just sent an email to OBX to see how this 1 year warranty works.

I dont get tired of saying it, just get yourself a chinacharger from ilovetacotaco and call it a day. Spins well at idle, boosts like a ****, keep that oil restrictor there for low oil pressure.

I don't want another small turbo. I need lots of power up top for drag racing. I'm an OBX dealer so I wanted to try out their stuff, so far not that impressed. I'll give it one more shot before I give up on them.

OBX warranty fail. I had a catalogue from their 2006 turbo product line, which stated a one year warranty. Figured it was the same on this, but nope. 90 days. I was on 95 days. FML.

Ordered this though, and expecting it today or tomorrow. Will give immediate feedback.

New Godspeed GT28 wet float bearing turbo arrived this morning, and a few hours later I was boosting down the road. The advertised 8psi wastegate was actually 15psi, so I modified an HKS wastegate and it works awesome. With the boost control in my AEM EMS, I'm running 12ish pounds.

The turbo arrives, and Chainsaw the cat appears to be pleased. The filename of the image is 666 though, which is a bad omen.


It gets even worse when the Godspeed box breaks the Sword of Odin. Doom is inevitable.


The product just become a whole lot more generic. Chainsaw the cat is scared.


The bag is not suitable for food! Who knew?!


The turbo hiding in a bag of oil. Usually that means it's made out of high quality metal products.
